Drake Bell’s association with Nickelodeon has always been paramount in his career (Amanda Show, Drake and Josh), but his interest in music was by no means kept a secret. Bell showed an acute sense for pop construct and was writing hit-worthy songs before his music career took full form.
Jared Drake Bell was born on 27 June 1986 in Orange County, California,US and started an acting career in the mid 90s, appearing in shows like “Home Improvement” and movies such as “Jerry McGuire” and “High Fidelity”. It was through his role as an actor that he came to terms with the music world. While working on the film “Chasing Destiny” he became acquainted with his co-star Roger Daltrey (lead singer of the Who) and received his very 1st guitar lesson from the rock legend.
Bell continued on with his music endeavors in parallel with his acting career. During his stint on the Amanda Show he often contributed musical performances and while he was starring on the show “Drake & Josh” he showcased many of his original compositions (one of which was the theme song to the series). Bell’s sound was heavily influenced by 60s pop groups like the Beatles, Beach Boys, and the Rolling Stones as well as 50s rockabilly acts such as Eddie Cochran, Chuck Berry, and Buddy Holly.
His first studio album, “Telegraph” was independently released through the label Nine Yards on 23 August 2005 and was later reissued in 2007. It was met with strong critical acclaim and featured the hit song “Found Away”, which has since been covered by Ariana Grande and Elizabeth Gillies. Later that year Drake Bell acted in the movie “Yours Mine and Ours” and performed the song “Bring Em Out” with the guitar pop act Hawk Nelson for the soundtrack.
Towards the end of 2006 Bell issued his 2nd studio album “It’s Only Time” trough the label, Universal Motown. This proved to be his most successful release yet, peaking at no. 81 on Billboard’s Top 200, no. 21 on Billboards Rock Charts, and no. 4 on the Mexico Top 100. The album sported the singles “I Know”, “Found a Way (Acoustic)”, and “Makes Me Happy”. The latter title rose to no.3 on the Billboard Hot 100. The three closing tracks: “Rusted Silhouette”, “Break Me Down”, and End It Good” acted as a medley and a homage to the Beatles album “Abbey Road”.
Drake spent the larger part of the remaining decade acting in movies like “Drake & Josh Go Hollywood”, “Superhero Movie”, “College”, and “Merry Christmas, Drake & Josh”. He also devoted a portion of his time touring the world and in 2008 released a DVD entitled “Drake Bell In Concert”.
On 22 April 2014, Bell released the rockabilly inspired album “Ready, Steady, Go!”. This release was produced by one of Bells’ favorite musicians, Brian Setzer. Though Bell composed a few of the album’s tracks it was predominately comprised of covers, including works by the Kinks, Bill Joel , Queen, The Jags and the Moves. The Brian Setzer cover “Bitchcraft” acted as the leading single and received a remix from the French electro-swing band Caravan Palace. The album hit no. 182 on the Billboard 200 and was supported by an extensive US tour, on which Bell played varying high schools.

Sometimes he has a full band, but Friday night it was just Drake with his guitar doing classics like "I Found A Way" and "I Know" and "Makes Me Happy" and new songs like "Fuego Lento" and "Honest". I went on a whim because it was Friday and I didn't have anything to do and he was only 5 miles away from my house, when before I've gone 45 miles into Hollywood to see him. It's been a tough year for me so when he did "Makes Me Happy" it really did make me happy! I got him to sign my poster and he stayed after the show to meet and greet and talk to the fans and I got a selfie with him <3. His guitar playing is awesome and I love his voice. I have been listening to "Honest" and "Fuego Lento" nonstop since then and wearing my Drake Bell shirt. On cloud ten. A step up from cloud nine. I told him about the time I was supposed to go see him on my birthday over a decade ago, but got sick right before and had to have surgery and wasn't allowed to go, so my friend called me from the show and handed the phone to Drake Bell and he talked to me for like half an hour after the show, resting the flip phone (yes, that long ago!) on his shoulder as he still interacted with fans at the show or passed it around to some of his Drake and Josh co-stars at the time so they could talk to me too. He even sang Happy Birthday to me. Not many people would go to that much trouble for a fan who wasn't even in attendance, but Drake Bell did. I said you may not remember that, but I do and I will always remember how amazing and special it made me feel. Drake Bell gets a bad rap from heckling 'fans' who expect him to cling to his Drake and Josh persona and ask "Where's Josh?", but Drake the actor and Drake the singer (not the rapper, as people joked before the show *rolls eyes*) are two different people entirely. Drake puts his all into a performance and has a great range of vocal talent, even doing a cover of "Stray Cat Strut" and Ed Sheeran's "Perfect". Don't box him into what you think he should be. Drake Bell is his own person and puts on a hell of a show. He is a rare breed of talent and tenacity, but he is down to earth, humble, approachable, and sweet and doesn't charge hundreds of dollars like other celebrities do for a meet and greet. I'm glad I went and after all these years of being a fan, he can still make my heart do a somersault. Thank you Drake Bell for putting a smile back on my face and a song in my heart.
Best known for his appearance in his television show 'Drake and Josh', Drake Bell became extremely popular to the younger generation, myself being one of them. The talented, young actor more recently dabbles in pop rock and alternative rock music, he even plays guitar, piano, bass guitar, drums and the ukulele. Although his music is quite catchy and he has a great presence on stage, it's hard to imagine him as anything other than the teenager from the 'Drake and Josh' TV show. Bell went on to sign with Universal Motown in 2006 as he released his first single called ‘I know’, which wasn’t exactly the most memorable song of the year to say the least. Drake still has a lot of following from young teenagers, especially in America where he currently does most of his performances, but speaking for myself as someone who watched the show religiously when I was younger I can't say his music is something I care to follow. He is a natural entertainer but I don't think he'll be breaking away from having a young fan base and his character in his TV show anytime soon. Let's just I can’t see him selling out any large arena's in the future, but my inner child would like to see him if he ever came over to the UK, I'd have to go alone though as I'm sure none of my friends would be willing to be seen at a Drake Bell concert. He’s had his time in the spotlight and I don’t think his career will be escalating beyond his acting career much more in the future.
OMG I can’t believe what even happened last night. It was absolutely amazing in every way. Drake was genuinely so nice to everyone. At the VIP Meet and Greet he came up to everyone and talked to them for a while and took pictures and whatnot and then they had food as well for the VIP. After the VIP was the show and the opening act was so great and so talented. Then Drake put on an amazing set and it was so cool seeing him perform live in person after loving him and watching him on my tv screen after so many years. He was so wonderful to be around and it definitely made my entire childhood that I went to his show and met him. If you ever get the chance to meet/go to his show you should go because it’s something unforgettable. I’ll never forget this incredible day.
It was the absolute best!! He was amazing. And so cool, I got to meet him before the show. We all talked so long that the venue people had to come and get him. Cause we ran over time and he was supposed to be on stage already. I got two signed posters and he signed my chest as well. Everyone please GO SEE DRAKE BELL! when he comes to your town. You WON'T regret it!!
Drake bell was amazing!! I had a feeling it was going to be a fantastic show. Drake has an incredible voice and he really knows how to play guitar! He has fantastic stage performance and an amazing band behind him. I can't believe it was free entry! I would hands down ditch work just to see another one of his shows again. 10 out of 10!!
