The White Buffalo is a band formed, fronted and led by singer and songwriter Jake Smith, who hails from Southern California, United States. Since debuting in 2002, the band have become true cult heroes for their edgy, atmospheric take on rocked up Americana.
They say all metal-heads turn to jazz once they grow out of heavy metal. Jake Smith is the poster boy for the flipside of that coin, which is that all punk rockers turn to country music once they grow out of liberty spikes and Napalm Death. Having spent his teenage years on a strict diet of The Descendents and The Circle Jerks, Smith didn’t even pick up a guitar until he was 19 years of age. He soon realized that he didn’t have any potential band mates around while at college in the San Francisco Bay area, so he started writing songs influenced by folk and country music and began performing them live anywhere that would have him.
After picking the name The White Buffalo as his stage moniker, Smith continued writing and performing until, in 2002, he self-released his first album “Hogtied Like A Rodeo”. After following that up with an E.P in 2005, he re-recorded his whole first album in 2008 himself and released it again as “Hogtied Revisited”. This re-release was massively acclaimed and saw Smith form a full band around The White Buffalo and hit the road supporting the likes of Gomez and Ziggy Marley. During the rest of the decade The White Buffalo were the best kept secret in Americana, playing massively acclaimed gigs almost completely independently.
Tracks of his appeared in TV shows like Sons Of Anarchy, who used six songs of his over the course of the series, always in pivotal scenes, and in 2010 his E.P “Prepare For Black And Blue” finally got him signed to his first label Unison Music. Ever since then, Smith has finally been getting the acclaim he richly deserves, with his concerts getting ever bigger and his following getting ever more devout with every day. Highly recommended.

Every song was delivered flawlessly ~ The energy that flows from Jake Smith aka Whit Buffalo is so dynamic and electric you feel as if you are a part of that energy. He played a long encore and the entire venue was going crazy ... Such dynamic energy beyond compare. A voice that can go from a tender ballad to a force like it is shot out of a cannon. Applause to his back up for being able to keep up with the energy he puts into his performances. I look forward to seeing him again. In singing the ballad he wrote and sang for his beautiful wife he brought a tear to the eye...If you ever have the opportunity to see White Buffalo ~ Get your tickets immediately ~ You are in for one he'll of a ride ~
Last night I joined a room of fans to watch Jake “ The White Buffalo” perform a sold out show. The weather although being cold and rain didn’t stop the crowd from coming out on a Wednesday night. Jake played a lot of his favorites and had everyone jamming to his songs. I myself was happy to hear Jake come back on stage and sing The Highwaymen, the boy does it perfect. Most importantly it’s always nice to see a old friend happy and doing what makes him happy. Jake Smith is truly a blessed man and his music reflects it.
Hands down best concert! Spencer Burton is a breath of fresh air. The two completely complement each other's music. I actually wasn't well versed in his music, but will absolutely be buying his cd.
The White Buffalo (Jake Smith), there is a reason that he is my favourite singer! He is passionate and worth every cent! His drummer was ridiculously talented.
Hands down, best concert I've been to since Bon Jovi and Kidd Rock!
Amazing show. Spencer was good and set the tone for the night. Jake came out alone and given the club it was very intimate. Sound seemed to improve after the first couple of songs. A challenge for any sound tech as he ranges from soft and melodic to driving within many songs. Played all my favorites and some new ones. Even with the few glitches throughout his performance, a very enjoyable show.

It was a good show, and the band plays well together. However, their strongest asset is Jake Smith's voice and, unfortunately, that wasn't used to advantage. Most of the set you could hardly hear Smith above the strings and drums. Maybe it was the mix settings, or maybe they prefer a more ensemble style, but it's sort of a waste of a huge asset. I wish I'd been able to hear him better!
The show was awesome! I loved watching the musicians connect during the show. It looked like they were having fun. I danced all night! One of the highlights for me was actually meeting Jake’s Dad before the show. Would have loved to have met The White Buffalo himself :) I’ll definitely go to their next show in Montreal!!
Show was Amazing! The venue & the bands close proximity to the crowd made it feel like a private concert for a large group of friends. The bands excitement & enthusiasm came through in their music and energized the crowd. Will definitely see them again at my earliest opportunity!
Quality night! So good live would definitely see The White Buffalo again, really good performance, top bloke. really good sound in there. great little venue with a nice bar with plenty of staff. Garage London is located well.
We went to the show in Hamburg on 24 april 2018 it was in one Word fantastic good songs and good voice we hope he comes to holland very soon, it was the four hour drive worth from holland

See The White Buffalo. Such great energy on stage, he is an awesome performer. Great songs, super tight band. They look like they love what they do and the crowd was great. Well worth the price of admission.
