• Trip Lee (born December 17, 1987) is the stage and recording name of American rapper, singer, poet and author, William Lee Barefield III, hailing from Dallas, Texas, U.S.

  Trip Lee knew from a young age he wanted to be either a professional athlete or famous rapper, and when age 14, he decided to devote his life to Christ, his rapping became an outlet for teaching the word of God. Age 17, Barefield preached his first sermon, and became influenced by the Christian hip hop artists Ambassador and Da’ T.R.U.T.H. Trip Lee subsequently met Christian rapper Lecrae who mentored the young rapper and introduced him to Reach Records.

  Trip Lee made his debut release with the album “If They Only Know” in 2006, issued on Reach Records. The record exposed the rapper’s southern-rap delivery and devotion to the word of Christ, as did his contribution to the Dove Award nominated “Jesus Muzik” also released in 2006. The rapper’s sophomore album “20/20” not only broke into the Billboard 200, but reached No. 11 on the Billboard Christian album chart, and No. 4 on the Gospel chart.

  The rapper’s subsequent album “Between Two Worlds” became the first Christian rap album to top the Billboard Christian chart, and became the 7th highest-selling digital album on iTunes in 2010. The album spawned the singles “The Invasion (Hero)” and “No Worries”, was nominated for two Dove Awards, and later won the Stellar Award for Best Hip Hop Album in 2011. Trip Lee has followed all his albums with worldwide tours with fellow Reach label mates delivering his Christ-focused hip-hop message.

  Trip Lee’s fourth full-length album was released on April 9, 2012 and features notable Christisan artists Sho Baraka, Lecrae, J.Paul and Jimmy Needham. The album surpassed the success of its predecessors debuting at No. 17 on the Billboard 200, making it the sixth highest-charting Christian album of all time. The southern rapper’s fifth full-length “Rise” hit the shelves on January 27, 2015 and was accompanied by the book “Rise: Get Up and Live in God’s Great Story”.
