  When I saw Tallah, Max Portnoy unfortunately wasn't there, and they had another drummer filling in.

  Their performance hardly suffered, however, and they played a great (but relatively short) set. I'm not sure if the short set, of only 5 songs, was a result of Portnoy being absent, or if it was just time constraints at this particular venue, but it would have been nice if the band had had an opportunity to play a few more songs.

  What I did hear, however, was fantastic. Tallah did a great job at simultaneously replicating the sound we expect from the studio versions, while still mixing it up enough to keep everyone on their toes.

  The venue was quite small, and there was very limited stage space, but Justin made every inch count with his impressive and sometimes hilarious stage antics, even performing a mid-song frontflip.

  Plus, the band made sure to give plenty of facetime to the crowd. When I went to buy some merch I saw Justin himself selling the shirts, and as they were preparing to take the stage I shook hands with Andrew and Derek (this was prior to the band's lineup change).

  Not only are they great musicians, they're great people as well. Friendly, down to earth, and here for their fans.
