Biografie

  • Miguel Jontel Pimentel is a singer, songwriter and producer hailing from San Pedro, California, United States who was born on the 23rd of October 1985. Since making his debut in 1998, he has released two studio albums, five mixtapes and nine singles.

Miguel Pimentel grew up surrounded by music. Even after his parents split when he was eight, he was still very much in thrall to the classic rhythm and blues that his mother coveted, and his father’s more diverse tastes in hip-hop, funk and jazz. Needless to say it rubbed off on the young Pimentel, who at the age of five wanted to be a dancer but changed his aspirations at 13. The very next year he began writing songs and developing them on an old four-track recorder that he borrowed from his uncle, and before he’d even finished high school he’d struck up a friendship with a member of a local production team called the Drop Squad.

By the time he was 15, Pimentel had signed a deal with the Drop Squad to produce his records, and over the next four years the two began making music and releasing it onto the internet. This paid off in 2004 when he signed a record deal with the independent record label Black Ice. He spent two years making his debut record but it was shelved mere months before release, a single and a video for “Getcha Hands Up” was released but even at 21 years old Pimentel was a savvy guy. He had already moved on from the sound that he’d developed with the label and walked away from his deal to find somewhere he could develop artistically.

Turns out this was the best idea he could have at the time, but it still took a year before anything else started happening. Near the end of that year, Pimentel’s manager submitted an album’s worth of songs to Mark Pitts, the man who would eventually become president of Urban music at RCA Records. Pitts was impressed and called a meeting with Pimentel in October of 2007, The following month, he had a record deal with Jive Records and almost immediately afterwards, he began work on his debut record “All I Want Is You”. Pimentel strengthened his profile by working with Usher and Asher Roth but Black Ice Records managed to delay the release of his album by a couple of years, suing him for breach of contract.

As if that wasn’t enough Jive Records was in the process of going under when the album was released in November 2010, and the album tanked due to lack of promotion. At least initially, it did. However its title track started to get steady radio airplay and that, combined with opening for both Trey Songz and Usher, made the album into a sleeper hit, ultimately spending 45 weeks on the Billboard Album chart and selling over 400’000 copies in the U.S alone. Jive Records was finally shut down and absorbed by RCA Records in 2012, and with Pitts the head of urban music, Pimentel signed with RCA and in October, released his first bona-fide hit album.

His second effort “Kaleidoscope Dream” went straight in at number three and he had his first top twenty hit on the Billboard Hot 100 in the form of its lead single “Adorn”. Pimentel was finally a legitimate pop star, and ever since then his star has just risen and risen, leading to sold out concerts all over the world and a million selling collaboration with the one and only Mariah Carey in the form of “#Beautiful”. Clearly, this is an artist who could quite easily achieve greatness in the very near future, he’s at the peak of his powers and we’re lucky enough to watch it unfold in real time. Highly recommended.

  • Miguel

As the lights slowly dimmed around the venue, the Boulder Theater became Miguel’s bedroom. A panel of screens reflected all the stars in the cosmos, while a voice called for sacrifice to the void, because in the end, “we’re all gonna die young.” Laughing in the face of mortality, as only the young can do, the mostly college-aged crowd held each other tight as they rode the microquakes of bass with the finesse of seasoned strippers.

The first words out of Miguel’s mouth were “she said, I don’t want a model,” and just the sound of his voice prompted ecstatic screams from the throng of females in the front rows. “I want you to win my heart,” the song continued, but it wasn’t love Miguel was selling from that stage. Despite various interludes about self-respect and everyone’s unique place in the universe, a Miguel show is about one thing and one thing only.

Pulsating radio waves brought the screens to life as they matched the breathing pattern of the man of the hour. Sporting white denim jeans, t-shirt, and leather jacket with feathers like wings, the 30-year-old singer/songwriter showed off his guitar skills while a surreal array of psychedelic patterns swirled around the stage. A new track, “I Told You So”, was augmented with a dance troupe of silhouettes, while “The Thrill” provided a bit of transparency to the impeccable band kept behind the curtain. It wasn’t until after taking us back to 2010 with “Sure Thing” that Miguel directly addressed the crowd in front of him for the first time.

  • Miguel, the R & B/pop singer/songwriter has garnered a huge following for his sound despite having only released his album in 2010. The follow-up to the debut 'Kaleidoscope Dream' charted well in the US and saw the young artist's reputation grow dramatically and with that his tours began to take place in larger and larger venues.

A humble performer though, as coming from the smaller stages Miguel, real name Miguel Jontel Pimentel, has stayed grounded. He delivers tracks such as 'Sure Thing' with sincerity even though he knows the audience are going to react in a huge manner to this fan favourite. It is worth noting for an R & B artist, Miguel can really sing as well as freestyle. His vocal sounds on point for the neo-soul influenced 'Strawberry Amazing'.

The crowd remains in a state of constant head dipping throughout before breaking out into dance during hits such as 'All I Want Is You'. Miguel knows how to charm an audience and gets the best reaction out of them for closing number 'Adorn' before exiting the stage knowing he has really performed.

  • Miguel Jontel Pimentel, known simply as Miguel, is a singer, songwriter and producer from California in the United States. Despite having achieved relatively moderate mainstream success, Miguel has garnered quite the following and his fans were out in full force during the show. The arena was full and had a chilled, cool atmosphere. Miguel himself appeared extremely humble on stage, thanking his fans and speaking to us, welcoming everyone to the show. He seemed incredibly friendly and cool, a vibe that related to his music and style as well as his personality. Miguel performs classic R&B, a genre that suits his smooth vocals perfectly. He sounded great live and sang all his classics, including the much anticipated and well received ‘Sure Thing’ as well as tunes ‘Kaleidoscope Dream’ and the dance hit favourite ‘All I Want is You’, for which the crowd went wild with their dance moves. It was such a great atmosphere and when the dance, upbeat tracks came on the crowd responded with great enthusiasm and energy.

  • Miguel is a great live singer and knows how to woo the crowd. He music is so amazing I almost didn't want to leave the concert when it was over. He skills goes far beyond just music, he's a songwriter and producer, showing he can really do it all.

I felt so lively in his concert it made me feel the best I have felt is some time. I truly loved every minute of his performance. He's totally professional and gives you exactly what you came and paid for. You will not be disappointed seeing him live.

The concert was great and I know good music when I hear it and this is where it is at. I kept screaming I love you Miguel although I know he couldn't hear my it seemed like it was only him and I in the venue and he was personally singing to me. I love him and his stylish ways I didn't want the concert to end.

I really love this man if I could I would ask him to marry me and I would always sit front row to be in awe of him. I have plans to actually see him again in another city.

  • Since discovering Kaleidoscope Dream, Miguel has been my favorite artist and I had been dying to go to one of his concerts for almost two years. Obviously, I went in with very high expectations.

He absolutely delivered. He performed for an hour and forty five minutes and put on a show. His vocals were on point, he engaged with the crowd, and his band was excellent. You could tell he really cares about his music and putting on the best performance he possibly can.

My only minor complaints are that he didn't play NWA and only played part of Simple Things, two songs I love.

Overall, it was a phenomenal performance that surpassed my extremely high expectations. It may have been my first Miguel concert, but it definitely will not be my last.

  • Miguel graced the Toronto stage and killed it. He sounds like his records and can hold a note. He also has a lot of energy. He was all over the stage. Good mixture of old and newer music. I wish I listened to his new album before the concert so that I could have sang along. The only issue that I had with the event was that it was on a Monday night (I had work the next morning and couldn't focus) and the venue sucked (Rebel Nightclub). I really wish he performed at Massey Hall.

  • AMAZING! I was pleasantly surprised. Miguel is such an amazing performer. I loved the all white attire of the band member and the visuals were on point! Miguel came out killing it from the the first song. His performance and dance moves are reminiscent of Prince. Amazing performer! The set was about 50/50 Wildheart and his older stuff. I loved that his set was a little different from the list on setlist.fm

  • This was one of the best shows I've seen in a long time. Great set list and blend of his old/new music. Came out on time. Performed for 2 hours. Great energy. Great fan interaction. Spotlighted both Guitar players and his guy on the drums - who all played their butts off. I have nothing bad to say about this show - it was awesome.
