Man Overboard formed in 2008 and is an American pop punk band from Mt. Laurel and Williamstown, New Jersey, United States.
Man Overboard is formed of childhood friends Nik Bruzzese and Wayne Wildrik who began writing songs and recording at Nik’s Small Hill Studio. The name Man Overboard is derived from the Blink-182 song of the same name and are a huge influence to the band’s sound and genre. Wildrik enlisted the help of singer Zac Eisenstein of the band The Front Page and after a number of other drummers came and went Justin Collier also of The Front Page was awarded tenure.
Man Overboard’s debut release, an EP entitled “Hung Up on Nothing” was self-released in 2008 after which the band went on a nationwide tour in support of. The band signed with Run for Cover Records in November 2009 and soon after released the EP “Dahlia” followed by a split EP with friends Transit.
The band’s sound is distinctively pop punk, with emo-influenced, melodically-driven lyrics, hard-core influenced guitar and enviable energy, Man Overboard walk in the footsteps of garden state heroes Midtown and Lifetime.
2010 saw Man Overboard release a 10-track compilation titled “Before We Met: A Collection of Old Songs”, the acoustic EP “Run for Cover” and the highly acclaimed debut LP “Real Talk”. The album, officially released July 20, 2010 topped many of the best-of lists for pop-punk albums in that year and allowed the band to tour the U.S. with bands like The Wonder Years and The Swellers, and Europe alongside Senses Fail and The Ghost Inside.
Wildrik left the band shortly after for personal reasons, with Justin Collier switching to guitar and new drummer Mike Hrycenko being drafted in. Wildrik returned in spring 2011 and Man Overboard remained as a five-piece and signed to the renowned Rise Records. The band released their sophomore self-titled album on September 27, 2011 to good reviews and opened the show at the Pop Punks Not Dead Tour headlined by New Found Glory. The band followed the release with a U.S. and European tour and departed with drummer Mike Hrycenko.
Man Overboard’s third full-length “Heart Attack” was recorded in a very short space of time and was released May 28, 2013, reaching No. 46 on the Billboard Top 200. The band followed the album with an extensive tour schedule in the U.S. and featured the songs "White Lies" and "Open Season"

Thanks to Songkick, I was notified via email that they were playing with Transit, Knuckle Puck and Forever Came Calling. The email notification instantly made me want to buy the the tickets, and obviously I did.
Man Overboard is just one of those guilty pleasure bands that I heard first in 8th grade that i get excited when they come up on my ipod on shuffle. Their new album, "Heart Attack", released this year, was brilliant and had more of a pop punk feel (which I love) rather than their older, sing-song, 2010, All Time Low-esque albums. Which were, of course, good but 'Heart Attack' wowed me and touched me a bit more.
As the concert went, the other bands did very well. I didnt like Transit or Forever Came Calling prior to the concert, but seeing it live, in the flesh, made me nod my head to their melodies. Knuckle Puck's performance was even better and sparked my interest to research their albums more. Man Overboard did absolutely amazing; from their new punk-melodic songs to playing their old, nostalgic songs, they blew me away and had me humming their tunes all the way home. The performance and music was amazing and executed time efficiently. I recommend anyone to see Man Overboard the next time they play in the great NYC if they love them or enjoy pop punk music. The only complaints I have about the show was the crowd surfers and thrashing but that really isnt much of a complaint towards the show, but the people that came to the show. I, personally, can deal with that sort of thing but I do not recommend going to any sort of Man Overboard show if you cannot deal with getting some bruises from the circling mosh pit that occurs.
In a world where pop punk is fast depleting from both the airwaves and the live circuit, New Jersey outfit Man Overboard are intent on changing this trend. The band has already been described as a modern day Blink 182 or Saves The Day which is a lofty claim yet you begin to understand the comparisons really when watching Man Overboard perform live.
They have so much energy, charisma and passion for their music and their crowds and this completely encapsulates the mentality of those 90s punk outfits. The crowd really does help lift the boys' spirits as they are equally energetic, jumping with hands raised high to cult favourites such as 'S.A.D'. They play a large amount of material taken from recent commercial success 'Heart Attack' which the crowds know well, singing back the chorus to 'Secret Pain' as one whilst the quintet concentrate on the angsty, disjointed instrumentals of the music. Punk was not only a genre of music, it was a revolution so it is really brilliant to see new bands continuing to find inspiration from this historical musical movement.
