Biografie

  • Kris Allen is perhaps best known as the season 8 American Idol winner, beating out renowned vocalist Adam Lambert in the show’s finale. He is an accomplished singer-songwriter and since his American Idol victory he has gone on to release numerous successful singles and several highly notarized full length albums.

Allen pursued music at a very young age picking up the viola in elementary school. Allen continued to progress at his instrument and joined the orchestra while attending Mills University Studies High School. He eventually worked his way into the Arkansas all-state orchestra. When Allen was in his early teens he taught himself to play both the guitar and piano. His musical endeavors were fueled by influences such as Michael Jackson, the Beatles, John Mayer, Matchbox Twenty, and Jason Maraz, and at an early age he landed a few gigs around town.

Allen went to college at the University of Central Arkansas to earn a business degree; however, he kept invested in music, playing shows around campus and acting as the music leader for his campus ministry and New Life Church. Allen eventually left college to pursue music full time and before he became a contestant on American Idol he would frequently refine his craft playing local bars and would sell shoes in order to make a living.

His stint on American Idol was a major turning point in Allen’s career. Through this program he was exposed to millions of viewers world wide and was given a chance to showcase his competence as both a singer and guitar player. Allen’s diverse taste in music was also evident in his performance. He expressed his versatility as a performer by playing songs ranging from an acoustic version of Kanye West’s “Heartless” to an elaborate cover of Queen’s “We are the Champions”. He played songs of all different styles such as Disco classics “She Works Hard for the Money”, honky tonk standards “A Song for You”, and classic pop standards “The Way You Look Tonight”.

After American Idol, Allen was a certified star and within a short period of time he had 5 songs make their way into the Billboard Hot 100. Allen released his 2009 self-titled album through the label Jive,19. This was a follow up to his very limited 2007 album “Brand New Shoes” (only 600 copies were made). His self-titled release featured 9 original compositions and contained guest appearances by Chris Daughtry, David Hodges, Jon Foreman of Switchfoot, and many others. Allen promoted this release with a headlining tour and a spot opening up for major stars like Keith Urban, Barenaked Ladies, and Maroon 5. Allen went on to release his third studio album “Thank You Camellia” in 2012 and his fourth studio album “Horizons” in 2014. “Horizons” marks a stylistic transition for Allen. During the making of this album Allen broke his wrist and was forced to alter his technique of guitar playing. Hence this album features heavy use of fingerpicking and despite the abrupt alternation in sound the album did very well on the charts, placing at No. 80 on the Billboard Top 200 chart.

  • Kris Allen

It is with great pleasure that I get to introduce Kris Allen to someone who has never heard him. He won American Idol in season 8 with a shocking (not to me) victory over Adam Lambert. He was so genuinely suprised at his victory, I feel in love with him for the second time that season.

His brother was the one who wanted to try out and they were the LAST ones idol took. He was so laid back Simon was put off by how humble he was. That was just the beginning of his magic.

What I liked most about Kris is that he can take any song and change it into what he would like if he wrote it. One of my favorites is Kris's remix of Heartless by Kayne West. I personally thought it sounded better than Kanye's version.

April 30, 2013 in Pawtucket, RI was my first chance to see Kris live. It was last minute, a two hour ride and a 11th birthday gift for my son Dylan. The venue was very small, we stood right by the stage. He came out with a stripped down version of his full band consisting of piano, beat box and guitar. He blew my sox off. He sounded better live that he did on my radio. During a break he asked Dylan to come up on stage and he sang Happy Birthday to him. My young son has tourettes and I can tell you Kris made him a celebrity and gave him self confidence that night. Dylan can be found on You Tube any time by anyone. That concert was a dream, better than I ever imagined and literally changed my life. I was so moved that immediately following his show I started to teach myself to play guitar.

The next show was in Maine that summer. He was playing on the rooftop of a bank. Dylan and I were crushed. We had brought a gift for Kris and his unborn child and since he was on the roof, we knew we would not be able to give it to him. Fate intervened again. We were allowed in the building to use the restroom. Well no golden opportunity slips by my husband. He boldly mumbled something about the second floor to the guard and before we knew it we were standing in front of the radio door. The guard asked me who I was I said I was a "Little Pawn" of Kris Allen's. (That is what they call you when you are part of his fan base) So HE USHERED US IN. Just Dylan and I at first, then my husband and older son came in later. Dylan and I were horrified but just kept moving on and asking for Kris Allen. Next thing we knew we were on the roof standing next to him and his road manager watching the band that was currently playing. We gave him our gift and I was so nervous I told him to open it later so I never did know what he thought of our gifts. I was inches away from he and his band on that sunny Maine day. He played Rooftops on the rooftop and it was wonderful.

The next time we saw him was in Hershey PA. It was our first ever family vacation and it was a big deal for us. We saw both his shows back to back and loved ever minute of it. He let the crowd come right up to the stage, shook hands with the fans and blew us away again with a wonderful show. At the end of this one we hung around after the show and got to meet him in person along with his bandmates, Cale Mills, Chris Torres and Andrew St. Marie. He was funny, genuine, handsome as all get out and wonderful to my son Dylan. During the show Dylan became concerned with a ice coffee that was on its side next to Kris. Kris noticed what was going on, stops what he was doing explains to the crowd that he and Dylan go way back and thanks Dylan for picking up the ice coffee.

Did I mention that Kris Allen broke his wrist this past year? Well it happened in January and his tour started weeks later. He went on the road anyway...cast and all against the advice of his doctors I am sure. He had two following surgery's and still never missed a show.

The last time we saw Kris was for my 50th birthday. It was the Valentine's show in Natick, MA. This, by far, has been his best show. Our seat literally touched the stage. We had VIP tickets and met him before the show and was given my prize possession, a large poster that he signed, happy birthday and Valentines day and he already knew my name! Thanks again to his buddy Dylan. He played music from his third album and even had my die hard critic husband laughing at his humor and clapping right along to the wonderful music.

A Kris Allen show is a real treat. He is funny, engaging, friendly and simply a great musician. His songs are excellent and creative and I always look forward to his mash-up of the current hits. He amazes me every time. It is not your average show. He leaves it all on the stage at the end of the show. Try just one...you will not be disappointed. Plus you can go with your whole family like we did. It is our best family memory to date.

  • This was the best live show I have seen in quite some time. Kris is such a talented young man. I knew he had a great voice but is so wonderful to hear in person. He is such a nice person and puts on a very clean show and is doing great things. I am surprised he is not more popular but maybe he is happy with the way things are. I know if I get the chance to see him again I will definitely be going. My daughter got to meet him after the show and he spent so much time talking with her about mission trips...truly Love this guy and what he stands for....He is an artist with morals and is grounded....don't find many of them today in pop or country world that are true to what is right. IF you get the chance to see Kris Allen.....You need to go see him.

I'm 35 years old...probably the oldest woman at the concert in Mississippi, jamming out, right in front :-) And when he walked off stage after the concert I was the ONLY ONE who got to take a quick PiC with him so my MiSSiON was accomplished!!!! And I got a T-shirt too. All in All ... Kris Allen and his band were OUT OF THIS WORLD!!!

I HOPE TO ONE DAY SEE HIM IN CONCERT AGAIN!!!!

  • I always love going to Kris Allen's shows! They are so much fun and I love how he and his band get the crowd involved. This Christmas show was one of the best Kris shows I have ever attended! Kris really put a lot of extra attention to the production in order to transport the crowd back to the old days on how Christmas used to be in the 30's, 40's, and 50's. And of course, his angelic voice and the way he always sings with so much emotion is out of this world. Do yourself a favor and buy a ticket to his Somethin' About Christmas show (tickets available on krisallenofficial.com) It will really get you in the holiday spirit.

  • Kris gave us an amazing performance. He is talented and has been devoted to his career a lot. I love his voice which is pure and inspiring. Actually one of the reasons I came to the U.S is because of him. His music and experience encouraged me to challenge myself. Fun backstory: I've waited to the very last just to have a small talk to him. He literally came to the front desk. whoo-hoo~ He is so sweet that he asked me: how are you? what's your name. and asked me if I need a signature and photos with him. I wish I could post images. I appreciate this precious opportunity. Looking forward to his next show!!

  • The concert was awesome!!! He was the second act and he really woke up the crowd. He has some mellow songs but also a lot that just make you wanna dance. I was waiting for Live Like You're Dying hoping he would do it and I wasn't disappointed.

He also did something that made me really like him as a person. He said if you sponsored a child in need you would get two CDs and an opportunity after the concert to chill with him and he would sign them. I unfortunately didn't have time to do that and meet him but I love that he's using his fame for some good. Awesome voice and an awesome guy

  • Fantastic concert in an intimate venue. His new songs are among his best yet, check out the newest album. His voice sounds even better in person - no autotuning need! It was just Kris and his guitar engaging the audience with great music and lots of humor. This is the first time I've seen Kris live and I went in as someone who enjoyed his music, but not an uber-fan. But this turned out to be one of my favorite concerts ever.

  • I've never been to a bad Kris Allen show! And this one was as AWESOME as the others!!

I loved his homey set. It looks like a family home at Christmas.

Loved the way he combined his songs with Christmas songs. It was high energy and also had some slower, beautiful moments. Like when the band all gathered around the mic and did an A Capella version of Silent Night!
