CHIC formed back in 1976 by renowned producer and song writer Nile Rogers. The band are 70's disco through and through, however because Nile is a song-writer fanatic, CHIC perform numerous songs which he has written too.
Back in 1976 Disco history and pop history was about to be written. Nile Rogers and bass player for CHIC Bernard Edwards put together a class act, a superb mix of girl and boy performers, to surpass the classical boy or girl band set up and thus created CHIC. CHIC went on to perform disco-dazzling tunes and number one hits throughout their career. There are literally too many to count but the three biggest have to be: "We are Family," "Le Freak," and of course "Good Times." However a personal favourite is "Upside Down" which everyone knows too.
That's the natural beauty of CHIC, it doesn't matter if you weren't born in the 70's, this disco band have influenced generation upon generation, meaning everyone knows their work. Their work is a better version of material from the likes of Erath, Wind and Fire.
And everyone knows Nile's work undoubtedly. He has worked with Madonna producing 'Like a Virgin' sending Madonna into world wide fame, and has also produced work for David Bowie and Duran Duran.
In 2014 CHIC were abducted into the rock n roll hall of fame, finally. That should have been done back in 1976. And it appears 2014 was the rebirth of CHIC as they headlined Bestival for the second consecutive year.

After Neil Diamond last week, tonight we are with Chic featuring Nile Rodgers and Chaka Khan as support at BluesFest 2017. Robert Elms is up to compere for the evening and promises us a funky Friday.
First up is Chaka Khan. For 64 she looks amazing and what’s clear is she hasn’t lost any of that fantastic voice. I’m not sure most of songs are strong enough to do that voice any justice but on the biggies ‘I’m every woman’ and the classic ‘Aint Nobody’ I defy anyone not to be impressed.
But this really is the warm up for the main man. Having written and worked with most of the major pop artists over the past forty years Nile Rodgers has an impressive back catalogue. As he drolly points out he has worked with Daft Punk, Diana Ross, Duran Duran and David Bowie… and that’s just the D’s.
Its ninety minutes of non-stop dance hit after hit. I have never seen the whole of the O2 on its feet for the whole night boogieing down to banger after banger (apologies but apparently that’s a term these youngsters use nowadays).
The impressive band keep switching it up and raise the tempo with the great Jerry Barnes providing the funky bass and groove for the rest to follow. They fill every gap in Rodgers choppy rhythm guitar style. Props to Kimberly Davis on lead vocals for most of the night, what a talent. I could mention every band member.
Highlight of the night… all seventeen songs. Best disco ever, I think so. I don’t know about the band but we leave the venue exhausted and sore throats the next day attest to the singalongability of the night.

Dolled up in matching white suits (their mothers must spend a mint on Persil), legendary '70s/'80s funk purveyors Chic take to the stage, beaming, grooving and gyrating, thundering out hits you'll know and love, and hits you'll never knew they'd crafted. Nile Rodgers is a master wordsmith, oozing charisma and stage presence – it's easy to forget he's one of the most technically-gifted guitarists ever. To see him shred, noodle and strum is to witness a true master in action. Hits like “Le Freak (C'est Chic)” will have anyone that can stand (or, in fact anyone who can't) boogie-ing the night away; “Good Times” is the epitome of fun; “Everybody Dance” howls with glorious glee. Arguably the most potent moment of their set is the mega-mash medley of Nile Rodgers-penned ditties. The combination of David Bowie, Madonna, Diana Ross, Sister Sledge, Daft Punk and Duran Duran belters is a brew too luscious to resist. Keeping your arms down, your legs still and hips stowed will be a tough ordeal indeed. There's a reason that festivals worldwide are still gathering like pigeons over breadcrumbs to book Chic and Rodgers for headline slots or special guest sets. If you have the chance, they are a must-see outfit.
Chic boldly claimed 'these are the good times' in their 1979 single and perhaps they were commentating on the band's live show. Assured to bring the party wherever they go, a headline set at the aptly themed Desert Island Disco of Bestival 2014, they dazzled the thousands of revellers gathered beneath the momentous disco ball.
With the funk icon Nile Rodgers at the helm, the crowds were treated to a plethora of original hits including 'Dance, Dance, Dance' and 'Everybody Dance' as well as unexpected cover versions of music that Rodgers either wrote, produced or contributed to. These include a number of Diana Ross tracks including 'Upside Down' and 'Coming Out' which are performed perfectly by the talented Chic vocalists. A frequent Chic collaborator Sister Sledge also have a number of their tracks featured, and the crowds cheers for 'He's The Greatest Dancer'.
Unexpected additions to the set include David Bowie's 'Just Dance' and Madonna's 'Like A Virgin' which evokes roars from the audience. A finale of 'Good Times' which included a stage invasion from the fans and other weekend performers before a blistering firework display closes the show and concludes Chic's showcase as legends of disco.
What a band, what a gig, what a guy. Absolutely loved it. It was just hit after hit after hit and as the man himself told us what he said to his doctor after he was diagnosed with prostate cancer - You do what you have to do medically and I'll do what I have to do therapeutically - and HE certainly has.
Also big shout out to Songkick, when our tickets hadn't arrived by the day of the gig and I had to make contact "out of hours". Email response was instant, further email with solution followed within 20 mins. Contact had been made with the venue and all was in order on our arrival. Nice one thanks

Nile Rodgers is such a humble man. he came onto the stage to see us all pre show and after the show he took time to speak with some of us at the gates before he left.
the music and the ladies who sang were great too and his band were brilliant.
me and my daughter had a fabulous time. the venue was great beautiful sunshine and a great crowd.

was truly one of the greatest shows i have seen. Number 1 hits from start to finish, 2 hours just flew by and they left the stage leaving the audience craving more. All day i've been listening to CHIC. Seriously if you like this band go! if you like disco music in general go! Absolutely amazing performance everybody will dance and i can assure you'll have a good time
Amazingly good gig - Nile Rodgers is a legend, one of the outstanding songwriters of my lifetime. Wall to wall No 1 hits spanning about 40 years, including several most people wouldn't know he had a writing credit for (Rappers Delight included - that was a new one on me!)
The entire evening was brilliant. Everyone was up dancing from the moment they came on until the moment they finished. Great atmosphere, would definitely like to see them again. Never knew Nile had written so many songs for so many artists.
