Three piece American post hardcore and metalcore band, A Skylit Drive, was formed in 2005 and is from Lodi, California.
While still attending high school, the members of A Skylit Drive came together in 2005, and made their first debut with an EP entitled “She Watched The Sky,” in January 2007. After the EP release, they set out on tour with various other bands such as Four Letter Lie, Scary Kids Scaring Kids, Greeley Estates, Before Their Eyes, Dance Gavin Dance, Pierce the Veil, and From First to Last. Upon returning from touring, they released their first full-length album, “Wires…And the Concept of Breathing” in May 2008, and again set out on tour. The album charted on various top charts including the U.S Billboard Top 200 and Top Independent Albums Chart.
In 2009 the band signed with Fearless Records and took part of the 2009 Vans Warped Tour. They also released their second full-length album entitled Adelphia on 9 June 2009. After recording and releasing a few more singles, the band signed with Hassle Records, who helped them release “Adelphia” in October 2009 in the UK. After being on another round on the Vans Warped Tour and a tour in Europe, as well as the release of another album, the band had a bit of a lineup change in 2012. Despite the lineup change, the band released “the single “Fallen” and returned to be a part of Tragic Hero Records. In July 2013 the band released another album entitled “Rise” which sold over 100,000 copies in its first week.
Mehr erfahrenPost-hardcore in its current format - that is, the style that verges on metalcore, with melodic vocals weaved in alongside demonic ones - is actually a relatively new concept, and few bands embody it quite as well as A Skylit Drive. They’ll celebrate ten years together as a band next year, but have already both achieved a lot - with four well-received albums dropped and a cult fanbase certainly secure - and been through quite a bit, too, with multiple lineup changes already; Joey Wilson and Jordan Blake are now pursuing another project, whilst frontman Michael Jagmin was actually replaced by Blake for a short time, before the latter was beset by problems with ulcers that forced him to lay down the mic. Going stronger than ever after the release of LP number four, Rise, in September of last year, A Skylit Drive’s recent live shows have been as incendiary as ever; YouTube footage from their Unconditional tour shows huge mosh pits breaking out pretty much customarily, as Jagmin’s cooed vocals are backed up by death growls from Cory La Quay and crushingly heavy instrumentation as standard. They’ve yet to make it over to the UK since Rise dropped, so expect dates soon, and get your earplugs ready in the meantime.
Post-hardcore outfit A Skylit Drive do not look like the typical Californian band as they approach the stage dressed head to toe in black. There is no hint of sunshine here, however what you do have is an intelligent blend of melodic vocal with metal riffs that sound awesome in quite an intimate venue.
Although the group has garnered a fair amount of commerciality in their homeland, the UK are less welcoming to the genre of hardcore so the fanbase could still be considered as cult. This does not seem to phase the band as they use the venue to their advantage, getting up close and personal with the fans during a rowdy rendition of 'I'm Not a Thief, I'm a Treasure Hunter'. There is no doubt this band are well tuned, despite their chaotic appearance they do not miss a note all evening. The whole room is completely energised by the time they wrap up with the cynical 'All It Takes for Your Dreams to Come True' as the group really loses itself onstage and lead singer Michael Jagmin launches himself atop of the crowd for the final verse.
