The Dodos are an American indie folk/ baroque pop band originally from San Fancisco, California and consist of Meric Long and Logan Kroeber.
The Dodos formed when their mutual friend introduced Meric, who had been locally performing San Francisco as a solo artist, to Logan in 2005. In 2006 Meric released a solo album entitled “Dodo Bird” and played all of the instrumental parts himself. As Loganwould perform these songs with him, they eventually just continued to play together all the time. They tried to incorporate their various influences, including Meric’s training in African Ewe drumming. The combination of this plus Logan’s experience with guitar metal, they tried to create something unique.
In addition to “Dodo Bird” the duo released “Beware of the Maniacs” under the moniker Dodo Bird in 2006. Because their fans would shorten their name to The Dodos, they permanently changed the name. By December 2007 The Dodos signed a record deal with Frenchkiss Records and released their second album, “Visiter,” early the following year. After its release they added Joe Haener as a touring member to cover the xylophone, toy piano and additional percussion. In 2009 the band released another album entitled “Time To Die” followed two years later by “No Color.” Their fifth album, “Carrier” was released in 2013 via Polyvinyl Record Company received high praise from various media outlets including FILTER and Under The Radar.
Mehr erfahrenAlthough the basic setup of The Dodos is basically guitar and drums, it’s not your usual rudimental White Stripes/Black Keys garage rock that San Franciscans Meric Long and Logan Kroeber play – they do something a lot more interesting with their two-piece arrangements. The Dodos has been making terrific records since 2008’s The Visiter, and their music is a kind of lo-fi folk music meets art rock, based around the clattering percussion of Kroeber and the talented and complex guitar playing of Long. They’ve sometimes been supplemented by a vibraphone player or an extra guitarist when playing live, but generally the core duo don’t really need any help to be brilliant. There’s few bands to compare The Dodos to but there are shades of Led Zeppelin’s acoustic moments in there, and the frenzied folk of Akron/Family but generally this is a singular band. They throw out fan favourites "Red and Purple" and "Jodi," while the battering ram of "Black Night" is always a rousing moment in the set with Long’s baritone croon taking centre stage above his fine playing. There’s as many electric moments as acoustic ones during the set, and that means there’s enough variety of tone and pace to make a show by The Dodos an endlessly entertaining one.
The Dodos consistently put on the tightest two man show I have ever seen. I have seen them live three times before, and will continue seeing them live because of how good they are live. If you haven't seen them live, I would say it's different from their recordings in which it is ten times more intense and incredible in itself to see their technical skill in person. It's hard to believe how much sound can come from those two when you're watching them in person. If you haven't seen them, I truly recommend it. The Dodos changed my view on how fun a concert should feel.

My gf isnt really into this kind of music and she really liked Springtime Carnivore's performance. I've always liked this venue but it was her first time there and she is really looking forward to the next show.
We got there early and got to see most of Springtime Carnivore's performance, everyone seemed to be having as good a time as wqe did, it was a good night overall.
Such a good show. Kind of bummed there weren't more people there, but they were still really energetic and played beautifully. They did a really good mix of music, showing off their musicianship. After the show, they hung around and signed things. Both were incredibly friendly and joked around. Would absolutely see them again.
simply awesome, efficient 2 member act, amazing sound and effects, a lot of dynamics which is quite rare. Highlight was the Season, will definitely see them again next time they come to Europe.
Drove 2 1/2 hours to see them.

As always I enjoy The Dodos perform, but the sound system last night was way off. This is unusual for The Black Cat, but the show was less enjoyable for it.
