Biografie

  • Datsik (born 9 June 1988) – real name Troy Beetles – is a Canadian electronic dance music producer, DJ and the owner of record label Firepower Records.

Taking his stage name from his Xbox Live gamertag, Datsik began producing bass music after becoming friends with Excision in 2008, and subsequently experimenting with hip hop. The pair collaborated a great deal between 2009 and 2010 and released several tracks together during this period. In 2009, Datsik also had ten number one releases on Beatport.

Datsik cites Wu-Tang Clan and Method Man as two of his main influences. His music encompasses a range of genres, including dubstep, drum & bass, electro house and trap. He has described his sound as “dark and robotic” and “funky and gangster”. Alrighty then!

The Canadian producer has remixed and collaborated with artists such as The Crystal Method, Kill The Noise, Wu-Tang Clan and Diplo, and has performed with Steve Aoki, Rusko, Bassnectar, Skream, Benny Benassi and Nero, amongst others. His debut full-length album “Vitamin D” was released in April 2012 and features appearances from Z-Trip, Infected Mushroom and Snak the Ripper. Stand-out single “Evilution” features vocals from Jonathan Davis, frontman of nu-metal band Korn.

Datsik founded his record label, Firepower Records in January 2012, naming it after his hit record of the same name. He has signed a variety of dubstep producers and bass musicians to the label, including Bare Noize (who has worked with Skrillex), Must Die! and Getter, amongst many more. Datsik’s EPs “Cold Blooded” and 2013’s “Let it Burn” have both been released under the label.

Datsik has played in venues worldwide, including Coachella, Ultra Music Festival, EDC Las Vegas, Stereosonic and Electric Zoo.

  • A couple months ago, I had an amazing time seeing Datsik perform in person when he came to play at the Regency Ballroom in San Francisco, California.

The venue was this really fancy concert hall, which was kind of a weird setting for dubstep music. In the end though, this didn’t matter one bit as the crowd tore this place up like it was any old underground EDM dance club.

The architecture of the building was kind of cool as a contrast to the type of music we were doing and the crowd that was there, but the quality of the music definitely showed that Datsik deserved to be playing in such a fancy place.

He tore through his repertoire including "Nuke Em" , "Let It Burn" and my personal favourite "8-bit Superhero". Hearing retro "Mega Man" exclamations reveraberate around the ballroom was pretty special.

I’m so thankful to Datsik for paying us a visit all the way from Kelowna, British Columbia, Canada, and letting us in America experience this amazing brand of dubstep.

I had the time of my life dancing the night away, and the crowd was positively electric the whole time. Hopefully I can make it out to another one of his shows at one of the big EDM festivals in the future so I can get the full experience. If you’re interested in electronic music at all, you owe it to yourself to check Datsik out in person for an unforgettable night.

  • Troy Beetles, better known by his stage name Datsik, is a Canadian music producer and DJ who is guaranteed to bring a show when he performs his electro house sound. Having performed at some of the biggest dance events globally including Ultra Music Festival and Shambhala Music Festival, he has a show that is adaptable from the large stage to the smaller venue.

When he took over Liverpool's O2 Academy it felt as though he had attempted to contain his entire festival show onto a stage of around 30 feet in diameter. The stage exploded in a barrage of lights as Datsik dropped the reverberated opening beats of 'Nuke 'Em'. He also played a variety of his favourite dance tracks including Aviici's 'Levels' which caused the crowd to erupt in cheers and dance below the DJ as he hyped and jumped around behind his decks.

Spinning a number of tracks all expertly mixed from his album 'Against The Machines' and whilst the crowd moved along to the music, the lights continued to hover overhead. His remix of Ice Cube's 'You Can Do It' finished the show with a bang and the audience feel deflated they can't continue dancing all night.

  • Datsik put on an incredible show at the Roseland Theater. The place was packed full, totally sold out & Datsik had the entire stage full with his amazing stage set up, lots of lights & lasers. A guy jumped up on stage & Datsik didn't mind! He told security that it was cool! People were crowd surfing & having a great time. The sound was amazing as well, I'm assuming because Datsik had brought some of his own sound equipment because it sounded better than ever in there!! I've seen him several times in different venues in Portland & this was his best so far, the sound, lights, the stage set up, his ninja outfit, everything was top notch! I highly recommend to anyone that's a fan & hasn't had the chance to see him live, DO IT! You won't be disappointed!! :)

  • I mean, DAMN! Where to start, well it was my 3rd time seeing Datsik in CO. The first two were good, but this show was INSANE. Datsik had a dope stage and did his whole show in a sick ass light up ninja suit. Like a light up Raiden from Mortal Kombat. Straight up bass fatality. Datsik's set was just banger after filthy banger. Nasty drops that vibrated through your whole body. The kind of WUB WUB WUB that leaves your ears ringing the rest of the night until you finally get to sleep.(The next day)! I won't miss any Datsik show in Denver for sure, and if you love bass in your face, don't miss him when he's in your town either. Wish I could go see him again tonight at Belly Up in Aspen.

  • The show was amazing. Riot ten killed it. As a whole the night was a lot of fun. But we were extremely disappointed that the end time we were expecting, shown on the tickets was 2 a.m. but the show was cut short by an hour and a half. Because the venue decided to make the show an all ages show and enforce an earler curfew after advertising differently.

  • Incredible show. Datsik, Zomboy, and Slander had amazing lights and visuals, and DIMOND SAINTS mixes things up well with their mirrored masks and spotlights with minimal screen-visuals. Very trippy, very fun. Great venue, I'll definitely be back there.

  • So sick! My only complaint was the number of high school kids in attendance, but it was such an amazing show! Even the opening acts were great. Thanks to Kytami, Virtual Riot, Crizzly and of course, Datsik. Looking forward to the next one!!
