• The Sadies

  Wednesday 25th October. The Sadies. The Boileroom, Guildford. Flying solo tonight at the local venue in Guildford. It’s the Sadies from Toronto, Canada and led by the two brothers Travis and Dallas Good. Travis a slimmer Jeremy Clarkson lookalike who plays a mean guitar and Dallas a well-dressed Will Self resplendent in his beige and diamante nudie suit supporting him on rhythm.

  Touring in support of their early 2017 release the excellent ‘Northern Passages’ it’s difficult to pigeon hole the Sadies sound. Its country, its Americana, its cosmic blues rock, its metal, its seventies Laurel canyon but whatever it is it works.

  Its ninety minutes of great songs, great harmonies and great solos from Travis. He is a man on a mission and on blistering form really attacking his guitar. Its frenetic stuff and I’m exhausted just watching it. It’s a barnstorming set and the four piece are tight and focussed.

  Dallas holds the show together providing the low key, between song, banter. This being Surrey the band get a round of drinks from one appreciative member of the audience.

  A thoroughly enjoyable night with a band it would seem destined to remain under the radar just waiting to be discovered after 15 years.

  Word for the venue, they have some great acts there, it’s a nice small size to give the evening that lovely intimate feel and even better, home before eleven which is a bonus.

• Toronto isn’t exactly the first place you’d think of when you’re talking about country and western music but it might be those unusual origins that help The Sadies put a unique flavour into their alternative country music. With their modern twist on classic country sounds The Sadies make for an intriguing live spectacle and pull off their sets with a bit of flair.

  All dressed in old school western garb, the band look like a product of a different era helping to evoke all kinds of western imagery from their sound. On a hot summers day these guys look straight out the Wild West. They aren’t some gimmicky history band though – this is a group of highly skilled musicians. Rolling drums and crashing cymbals mesh with the thunderous double bass to form the backbone of their sound. Topped off with rustic guitar work and gritty vocals the band make for a stunning display of musicianship. These guys may be from Canada but as soon as they start playing the crowd knows they’re in for an authentic western experience which is guaranteed to entertain.

• Dallas and Travis deliver! This is one of my favorite bands and one of the best live shows I've seen in a long time. They are even better live then on their records. The interaction between them with Dallas on the tele and Travis with his Gretch is awesome! They are both very talented musicians and guitar players. The Soho borderline is a very small venue so you are literally standing one meter from the Good brothers. This is so great! They perform tracks from their

  first album to the last one and they do it perfectly.

  Run to see them if you have a chance. I will definitely go again!

• Do not miss this band if you are lucky enough to have an opportunity to see them. They are 100% INCREDIBLE. I was AWESTRUCK (and still am two days later). I've seen them twice now and I can't wait to see them again. I've been fortunate to see some great bands I'm really into because I live outside of NYC and the SADIES are right up there.

• The Sadies never disappoint! They are so great live and always go that extra mile for the crowd. They play a good mix of old and new songs which usually insures everyone gets to hear a favorite. I would recommend seeing this band to anyone!
