Biografie

  • Heart is a successful rock band from Seattle, Washington based around sister duo Ann Wilson (lead singer) and Nancy Wilson (guitarist) who are now based in Vancouver, Canada.

The formation of Heart can be traced to two couples, Ann Wilson & Mike Fisher and Nancy Wilson & Roger Fisher. The group played numerous shows around their new home in Vancouver, and they recorded a demo tape with the assistance of producer Mike Flicker and session-guitarist and keyboard player, Howard Leese. Flicker went on to produce the band's first five albums due to their successful working relationship. Their debut album broke the top ten on the US billboard charts aided by two hit singles 'Magic Man' and 'Crazy On You', an impressive feat for a new artist.

Due to a bitter magazine article claiming the sisters were romantically involved, the band cut its ties with record label Mushroom Records and signed with a competitor, Portrait Records. In 1977 both labels released material by the band whilst trying to prevent the other from any future releases. Eventually a Seattle court forced Mushroom to recall the album so Heart could remix and rework tracks before officially releasing it again, featuring hit single 'Heartless' which went on to be certified platinum. The band enjoyed continuous success with it's following releases. 'Dog & Butterfly' became a double platinum selling record and Babe Le Strange became their third top ten chart hit. They supported the latter with a 77 city tour to expand their growing fan base even further.

The next two releases were not produced by Mike Flicker and struggled commercially without the hit singles of the previous, however in 1985 the band reclaimed their status with a self titled release which debuted at #1 in the US, sold five million copies and featured four top ten hits including the chart topping 'These Dreams'. The next album featured their most recognisable worldwide hit, 'Alone' which achieved number one in both the US and Canada in 1987. Their chart success simmered after this. The albums still performed well in the States and 'Brigade' became their highest placing in the UK charts, yet in 1995 the group went on hiatus with Ann wanting to concentrate on her family.

In 2002, Ann and Nancy returned to the road with a brand-new Heart lineup that included Scott Olson, Ben Smith, Alice in Chains bassist Mike Inez, and keyboardist Tom Kellock whilst still releasing original material. Heart is considered one of the most consistently successful American bands achieving top 10 billboard albums in the 1970s, 1980s, 1990s, and 2010s and in 2013 they were rewarded with an induction into the Rock & Roll Hame of Fame.

  • Heart

It is a true inspiration to see Heart live. Founders of the band, Ann Wilson and Nancy Wilson, play with so much passion it is nearly impossible not to get swept off your feet when seeing them perform. To see them blend all the diverse genres of music they play live is an immense pleasure to witness.

Heart has great musical chemistry whenever they perform live, which is probably highly influenced by the two main songwriters being sisters. The two sisters, Ann and Nancy, are looked at as musical legends within their genre for being some of the first female performers to front a hard rock band. They are rock and roll pioneers that helped pave the path for many that have come after them. Both Nancy and Ann have impeccable voices, and they often alternate between singing songs in the set. Nancy often has a softer, more pristine voice, while Ann has the more intense, stronger voice, which is able to pull off the more hard rock songs like “Crazy on You”. Both the sisters play guitar on songs, but Nancy usually is more likely to be seen on the guitar while Ann is more likely to be seen singing her heart out on the microphone.

The rest of the band plays integral roles in the performance as well contributing to the strong rhythmic foundation of the performance and playing some important leads on the guitar and other instruments. Ann is also known to add a more orchestrated sound to the performance with her ability to play the flute on such songs as “Walkin’ Good”. It is not unexpected that a band that has been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and a band that has sold over 35 million records would put on such an amazing show. They have even impressed the likes of Led Zeppelin when they performed a cover of the song, “Stairway to Heaven”. Heart is so interesting to see live because of their wide diversity of musical sounds. One moment they could be inspiring their audience to rock out to a more heavy oriented song like, “Barracuda”, and the next moment they could soothe the audience with one of their folk ballads.

  • Some Bands are just infallible. HEART is one of those Bands. Even when they are obviously either having a "off night" (all Bands deal with) or suffering from a Bad mix which, I think was the case at the Xfinity Center last night. Or both? I've seen Bands deal with this in numerous ways usually to the detriment of the sound guy and the inevitable effect on the performance on the whole.

Not so with HEART and not just the Wilson Sisters but, the whole Band. They fought their way thru the mess and as always gave everything they had for the audience. Never once making a comment or hostile "signals" to the side of stage. Though at one point there was a mass "pick throwing" in that direction but accompanied with smiles so... Professionals through out.

To no surprise Ann Wilson is still the epicenter on any stage on any given night with a voice that is still thunderous and commanding and it is all her with no enhancements what so ever.

They left the stage at the appointed time of 10:30 but it was done rather abruptly.

As per their standard they encored with two Zeppelin Songs and honestly I think HEART might due Zeppelin better than Zeppelin now?!

  • American/Canadian hard rock outfit Heart have an inter-band history with a romantic twist as the two sisters Ann and Nancy Wilson were originally coupled to two of the musicians, brothers Mike and Roger Fisher. Years later, it is only the sisters who remain in the touring lineup yet they are now joined by long term musical collaborators who know the entire discography well.

There is a great mixture this evening of the original and recently revived hard rock/alt-folk sounds along with the classic balladic stylings of 'These Dreams'. The largest singalong comes for the iconic, timeless and ever powerful 'Alone' and although the thousand strong crowd bellow out the choruses, the vocal prowess of the sisters trumps them every time. They remind the audience of the fantastic music found on their early albums such as 'Magic Man' and 'Barracuda' which have both aged brilliantly. It is worth noting that as Heart approach their thousandth live show, they still obtain a huge amount of passion and determination for the live show and their loyal audiences.

  • The ladies looked amazing especially Ann wow she dropped weight and had a complete makeover I felt like I was back in 1975 now for the BAD 1) the noise for the show was low there was a lot of old people there but to have a rock show and turn the volume down was unacceptable I went to disturbed the next night at the same venue and then for the songs I love the most the 80's heart songs they played 3 of them these dreams, alone, and what about love they replaced the electric guitar with a acoustic guitar twice and a eucalele once u know that small guitar with double the strings ? But barracuda and magic man were full electric so that was cool but overall I think the show was geared more toward the geriatric crowd even Joan Jett's set was mainly very mainstream songs both songs from light of day ,cherry bomb (made famous by that movie the runaways) and the usual hits overall a 6 out of 10 for me not a bad show but definitely not in my high tier of shows and I've been to hundreds over the years

  • The concert was great, a little hot n muggy but well worth it. We had lawn seats n it was just so packed out if we had brought lawn chairs we wouldn't have been able to sit in them not enough room, of course we did get there late cause of the traffic going into the race track. Kinda ridiculous actually. Riverbend really needs to fix the problem, traffic from Coney island and the race track ended up walking a mile from the parking problem, 3 very popular events at the same time is just CRAZY.... over all the waiting to get parked it was a great concert.

  • Thoroughly enjoyable gig, if a tad on the short side. Playing a main set of only 50 minutes is not really acceptable, plus covering 3 Led Zepp tracks as an encore seemed a somewhat self-indulgent homage to their idols. That said, it was great to witness the Wilson sisters in person, Anne's singing and Nancy's guitar work (and vice versa) both top drawer. Highlights - Anne's stripped down version of Alone, and, as always, Crazy On You.

In summary, a great gig but 20 mins more show time and more Heart songs please ladies.

  • What can I say but OH MY GOD! Heart were absolutely amazing! Anne and Nancy's voices are every bit as powerful, alluring, and enchanting as ever. The band was super. Joan Jett and Cheap Trick were both pretty dang good. Waiting out the downpour made it all even more worth it. I only wish we could've seen more of them, but the rain forced it to go short. The set list was just spectacular. I hope they play RR again!

  • I've been seeing heart since I was 14 yrs old I think they are amazing. I learned to sing the songs just like Ann Wilson. She has such a powerful voice. I learned a lot about Ann from Ann's life through her songs. Nancy is a great guitar player and has a great voice as well. I met them at a book signing in huntington yrs ago. I see them everytime they come to NY. I'm one of there biggest fans.

  • Heart are brilliant. Anne and Nancy can still sing and play like they are still in the 80's. Top notch performance and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra gave songs an amazing lift. Only downside was the very short set. 60 minutes then went off. 15 minutes of encores so 80 minutes tops. So not VFM.

  • Heart was great! Ann & Nancy still have it going on. Only problem was the venue. I wish they would have stuck to singing their hits and left off what they wanted to sing. Maybe some of their old songs were just out of their vocal range today...dunno. Otherwise, I recommend seeing them!
