Biografie

  • The brain project of American EDM artist, Thomas Wesley Pentz (AKA Diplo), Major Lazer was originally a collaboration with fellow EDM artist Switch, and later on Jillionaire and Walshy Fire.

After both Diplo and Switch worked with MIA, they were introduced to each other and thus Major Lazer was born out of their collaboration. Their first album “Guns Don’t Kill People…Lazers Do” was released in the summer of 2009 via Downtown Records. The album had vocal guests like Nina Sky, Santigold, and Turbulence with additional production done by Afrojack and Crookers. The album was met with quite warmly, with a MTV VMA Breakthrough Video nomination for the song “Hold The Line.” They also were slated live performances at some of the biggest music festivals around the world, such as the 2010 Coachella Music Festival in California in the United States and The Falls Music & Arts Festival in Victoria, Australia.

However, in 2011 due to creative differences Switch left and was shortly replaced by DJ/ Producer Jillionaire and Walshy Fire. The trio released “Free The Universe” in April 2013, along with the announcement of a world tour for the album. The album again featured guest vocals from various artists, such as Wyclef Jean, Bruno Mars, Laidback Luke and Vampire Weekend’s Ezra Koenig. They continued to make music into 2014, with Pharrell Williams and Sean Paul signing on to be a part of their EP project, “Apocalypse Now.”

  • Major Lazer

Amazing way to bring in the new year. Diplo, Jillionaire and Walshy fire were so dapper in their tuxs and the twerk team slayed in the all white ensembles. Unfortunately it was only about an hour of true major lazer (first song of 2017 was "Light it Up" the remix w nyla.) Not really enough of peace is the mission, like powerful and of course lean on which i really would have expected for NYE in Vegas. But Walshy fire hyped it up, Diplo was playful and festive and Jillionaire brought the caribbean flavor (Jamaican) that is the reason I follow ML around the world. The last hour devolved into late 90s rap music that was reminiscent of high school prom, but that is a very vegas theme where patrons really don't have a deep-seated passion for the performers and its more like "let's get drunk in vegas." But for real ML fans I got my money's worth but would have liked to hear just a bit more from Peace is the Mission. Will i still follow ML all over the world and hope to one day have a drunken face to face with my musical idols, of course. But maybe Las Vegas was ambitious for that particular goal. In short, see them, love them, twerk until you can't twerk no mo. After 5 mad decent block parties and a mad decent boat party they are still at the forefront of relevant amazing and booty shaking electronic music. Play on playas. Much love from a dedicated fan <3

ps. Diplo still fine as hell. Hardest working producer in the game. Keep innovating and helping lesser known artists breakthrough, your collaboration with MO was a huge contribution to stateside music (although they are danish). Much love for that dancehall vibe :) I think I really need to see a proper show in Kingston. So much love and respect, if you don't know, betta ask somebody ;)

  • Major Lazer RESPECT! Do you want to check out an awesome show of epic proportions! Every Major Lazer show is essentially a party. Complete with crazy effects, twerkin dancers, and crowd-surfing. If you like having a good time, dancing, getting ‘turnt up’ then you need to go see a Major Lazer show. Major Lazer is collaboration between DJs/producers, headed by all-star DJ ‘Diplo’. Diplo started out as a producer for M.I.A. producing hits such as ‘Paper Planes’. Aside from producing hits, Diplo has risen up the ranks to be known as one of EDM's biggest names! He blazes festivals all over the world and now has an exclusive nightly event at XS Nightclub. Major Lazer’s music is a combination of EDM and Reggae, that I would call Electric Dancehall. Major Lazer combines 2 genres of music that usually aren’t mixed together and creates an Ultimate party Mashup. Some of Major Lazers biggest hits are ‘Bumaye( Watch out for this)’ , ‘Get Free’, and ‘Original Don’. If you grew up in the early 2000’s like I did you’ll remember hits from Sean Paul and Mr. Vegas. Even if you don’t you’ll get an awesome mix of music that will make you feel like you’re at the ultimate summer party!

  • "RUN THE TRACKKK!" Every Major Lazer fan knows when they hear this it is time to get up and start bouncing to the music, specifically the band's unique blend of electronic dance and reggae undertones. I saw Major Lazer live at Mad Decent Block Party, and let me tell you they were the stars of the show. I don't think a single person was left sitting down in the entire pavilion when they came on stage, and when the DJ screams "You are now rocking with Major Lazer," you better really be rocking because they are about to drop some of the best beats of today. Their version of Original Don is the soundtrack to my freshman year of college, and I don't think anything gets me hyped like that bass line. Not only was their music incredible, but the stage was filled with psychedelic decorations that moved along with the beat, making it impossible to look away from the stage. I had seen many other artists that day and was starting to get tired, but when ML came on stage I knew I had to catch a second wind for their set. Whether you're in it for their island sounds or just the energized atmosphere of their performance, do yourself a favor and see this artist live.

  • Major Lazer were without doubt one of the most fun acts of last year's Bestival. Performing before the legendary Chic & Nile Rodgers, Diplo and co had quite a mission to whip the crowd into suitable excitement on the main stage. Luckily they achieved it with ease due to the massive amount of audience participation during their set.

At one point everyone on the hill had their t shirts swinging around their head before launching the clothing at the stage. This is all before they dropped massive hits such as 'Get Free' and Jason Derulo's 'Talk Dirty' which turned the sunny afternoon into a hedonistic high octane dance party.

The members jumped around the stage as the tired revellers having been through nearly four days of festivals summoned their final bit of energy to dance along. 'Pon De Floor' got the best reaction as everyone hit the ground in unison to the delight of Major Lazer. A party act through and through and a must-see act for any festival.

  • INCREDIBLE! I've been a massive fan of Major Lazer and followed there "musical journey" if you will for quite some time, the music they make is just so different and out there, and just makes you feel good. I have seen Major Lazer twice prior to this most recent one for the Peace Is The Mission tour. Both of those times, amazing! However this time, absolutely phenomenal!! For the duration which they performed I've never felt on the same wavelength with their music. 10,000 going insane, dancing/raving, listening to craziest and sickest music you've ever heard. So much energy and just that feeling of it not wanting to end. The combination of the music and the dancers was simply perfect! Amazing!

  • As Always Major Lazer never disapoint, in Paris in Olympia for the second time for me, it's was very intense the light show has evolued a lot and it's very beautiful how it match with the sound, the only negative point was in my opinion the end were the light has turned off by the administrator of the Olympia i think, because we see Diplo upset by the situation to not give us a little more of that energy of Major Lazer vibes.

We need more Major Lazer in Paris in and massive festival on a Open Area!

    Come back soon!

  • Such a crazy performance. Saw Major Lazer as a headliner for a music festival. At one point one of the artists went into a giant hamster ball and rolled into the crowd. Safe to say it was definitely worth it.

  • Such a great show! Great line-up, great songs, and great sound. It was cloudy which was good because it could have been very warm otherwise. It would have been nice to have more water stations.
