• There are few other gigs I have been to - in fact there are few other life experiences I have had - that compare to the feeling of seeing Guillermo Scott Heron up on stage. Stood in the filled out Fox Theather, I waited to see what eclectic hip-hop, jazz, electronica music genius had in store - at this stage in time I had only listened, albeit extensively, to ‘One Word Extinguisher.' Prefuse 73 soon took centre stage between two drum kits. As soon as the music dropped, the packed-out venue suddenly didn’t feel so crowded; everyone was in this together, swaying, moving in time, like Prefuse 73 had somehow commanded everyone to feel the same chilled out vibe with the drop of his first track. As one song lead into another, the crowd exploded - like each new track was their favourite song. I can only imagine what it felt like for the thirty-something year old to hear constant screams of delight throughout his entire set - the man was certainly doing something right. Prefuse 73 has released 10 albums in the space of 12 years, as well as countless EPs. Although his last album was released in 2012 - which feels like a lifetime ago - each time he takes the stage, whether its at an intimate gig, or a festival for thousands, his performance is fresh faced, never a copy of his last, each time I have seen him since he has put a new spin on the way his music is experienced - which is exactly what Prefuse 73’s live show is - an experience.
