Live reviews

  • Joji

Just the day before the concert I went to, I read some of these reviews and got super worried his live show wouldn't live up to the hype I had for him; tl;dr, it was everything I could've ever wanted. The concert altogether was about two hours, (not three as we were told, though that's pretty common with concerts so I wasn't expecting three). The opener was Rei Brown, a really talented lo-fi type of artist like joji, his music is definitely on the slower side even for lo-fi but he's crazy talented both vocally and from a production perspective. The most criticism I'd give him is he could add more variety to his music, but for the 40ish minute performance he did I was really impressed (favorite song is Street Fighter). There was a noticable delay between him and Joji, though this was an issue with the venue and not 88rising because there was something wrong with a heater. Now onto Joji, he was incredible. He sung w an instrumental with some light supporting vocals that distract much from the performance (also he didn't rely on these strongly at all), and sang fourteen songs, about 10 from ballads 1, three from in tounges, and you suck charlie. Great show.

  • Took my daughter to last nights show in SanFrancisco as she is a big fan. Had to buy 3rd party tickets for WAY too much because it was sold out. Joji came on at 9:30 after the opener finished a bit after 9:00. He then only played a 50 minute set!!! What? Are you kidding? The opening act played a longer set than him! I can't believe we drove almost 2 hours and paid $200 for less then an hour show. That is not cool. The 45 minutes that he played was alright, although he strongly relied on the backtrack vocals. He wore a huge puffy coat with no shirt on underneath. Then he kept taking it off saying it was so hot, then 40 seconds later would put it back on. He did this at least 12 times. It was kind of distracting. A roadie finally gave him a t-shirt but he decided to throw that one to the audience. Then for he asked for another one later to put on. He said "Make some F* noise SanFrancisco" about 20 times. Come on dude, you can do better.

  • also sidenote since we can’t reply to reviews, no one here should be complaining about price of admission. Pre-sale tickets were about $25 and at door tickets were $30. I bought 2 tickets at door for $60 and from what I saw, only about 10 people bought their tickets there. Do not complain about buying your $100 tickets from somewhere else as that is not Joji’s fault whatsoever. in addition to this i saw a review about general admission pushing past VIP. i was one of the first people (like 4th) in the general admission line and when i walked in most VIP were crowded in the middle which allowed me to get to a corner near the front that only had about 6 VIPs in front of me. if anyone who wasn’t VIP was trying to push past you it’s your responsibility to be more assertive on telling them to back off. Do not blame Joji on problems you could have dealt with, thanks.

  • I really enjoyed myself at the concert but I paid for VIP to just stand there for three hours and watch him for 45 minutes. Once General Admission people were allowed to pour in they were pushing the VIP out of the way to get to the front of the stage. Next time they should think of having a seperate area for the VIP that is barricaded off because I had people all over me and hitting me, purposely pushing me out of the way.

The VIP package was also just a signed poster, a drawstring bag, a beanie and fake tattoos.

Hoping the nightclub also thinks of the difference between VIP and GA and give the VIP more benefits. Felt like I paid more to stand there and get pushed around. Not going to the Middle East Downstairs again from this experience.

  • -the audio was messed up and no one could hear the song sanctuary. It was even more messed up because joji himself didnt know we couldnt hear him so he continued the song until the end. So ultimately, i didnt get to hear my artist sing my fav song so I was super bummed.

-they didnt sell merch so that was pretty upsetting.

-the show ended really early and he didn't sing his new release???

-overall the show was very short and wish the audio was working properly. I cant believe the sound system people allowed him to continue singing the entire song when clearly it wasnt working. So disappointed.

  • short concert (40 mins)

audio quality wasn't perfect, background was louder than vocals

he left the stage halfway through and came back a few minutes later without explanation (probably asthma or some other illness, but people were mad)

hype man outstays his welcome and is louder than the artist

good music though, personally i feel like its worth the price of admission (29 euros) but i understand why a lot of people left the venue feeling ripped off and dissapointed

  • opening act was really long and really loud - so much so that joji's set seemed overshadowed. tickets said show started at 7pm but he didn't come on stage until 9:30 (standing for 2.5 hours was not fun). the good thing is - you can't remember physical pain so although our legs and backs were aching it is all but a pleasant memory. he sang all our favourite songs, and the visuals (especially during Attention) were fantastic. overall good show but strong setbacks.

  • JOji had great energy and imagery on the screen behind him to add to the mood of his music. Joji's crowd interaction was him sharing chips and dip with people in the front rows. Unfortunately his mic went out for a bit so one song was missed but then he came back already to go. He sang his key songs, most memorably 'Slow Dancing in the Dark'. I came for the opener Phum Viphurit who was unreal live and had such a upbeat performance and crowd inclusion.

  • Well, first of all the concert didn’t go 3 hours as planned. The first 45 minutes,a crappy DJ played some music. He then left but Joji didnt come for good 20 minutes. He finally came, played for an hour and then the concert ended.

So,if its easy for you to get there,i would definitely recommend going there. But don’t travel from afar just to watch him lipsync his own songs

  • I was realy looking forward for this concert. Being a great fan of joji's past and present work, I wanted to see his talent on a live stage... So disapointed to see only another SoundCloud artist, uncapable to Sing on a live stage... Also, it was to short (only 2hours,he could Sing some old songs of his repertoir)
