  Since bursting onto the emerging post-dubstep scene in the late 2000’s, 23-year-old Bristolian music producer Liam Mclean, also known as Joker, has become one of the better-established names in British electronic bass music. The Hyperdub DJ pushed himself to the forefront with underground hits such as “Tron” and “Psychedelic Runway” in these tracks he forged his signature “purple” sound, alongside releases from fellow West Country beat makers Guido and Gemmy; a more synth centric and atmospheric, laid back strand of dubstep compared to the constant whomping bass lines coming from his peers in the industry. This distinctive production style translates into his live DJ sets, as he plays a set of carefully selected tracks that make you feel like you’re trespassing through a dodgy abandoned industrial park in the middle of the night, and enjoying it. The deep murky mood doesn’t drop at any point, even when he plays the more upbeat “The Vision” a collaborative track from his album with South London songstress Jessie Ware.

  However, bass hunters need not despair, Joker likes to mix it up between his own remix tracks and those of other similar producers such as Skream and Benga, making it an all round crowd pleasing set, meanwhile the MC keeps the audience bouncing and skanking through the night with his well placed ad libs between drops. With a variety of bleeps and booms coming from the speakers, Joker is sure to fill any venue with his larger than life sound, and it’s an experience not to be missed.
