Going out last night and meeting The Mrs and others The Gig Slut made his first visit to Songkick HQ.last night.
This was quite an intimate affair,and we'd been welcomed with a beer.
It was her birthday,and we were all allowed to write in a card for her.
She played a good little set of her alt country folk rock with her band ,doing 2 or 3 solo songs- all very good,and a 50 minute set.
She mentioned her birthday as none of her band would,and then a cake was presented,which pleased her.
Afterwards The Mrs and I rushed off to grab a 149 up to Dalston,and then to The Shacklewell,where we queued on a one out /one in policy.Four Tet Dj'ing.
We chatted to a couple of swedes Josephine and Julia,with details being put later on a phone ,to be lost forever.
After not too long we got in. Well,it was as hot and close,when we got in as I remember indoor swimming pools were on gala days.Quite appropriate as we were there for Bathing ( in our own sweat )
Their music : ElectroSauna.
I did not see Stewart W. He was probably melted somewhere.
10 minutes was enough for me.I made a charming new hot friend on the way out,Eileen,was it ? shouted into my lugoles at 90 Db's.
This was around 22.10 ,and i made my way to Dalston Kingsland and took the 22.25 to Highbury.From there the best I could do was the 23.01 at Vauxhall and a prompt 216 to be home for 23.41.
Saw Julia Jacklin last night at The Fillmore Philly. I had a great view of her and the band from the upper section.
Well, she was absolutely ferntastic. She is so amazingly cool and relaxed looking. The way she moves and the way she dances when she's playing and singing just kills me.
Even the way she introduced the band was so sweet.
And her voice was as good if not better somehow than on the record.
The band too. It really sounded great.
I was a little afraid she wouldn't be able to match what I've come to love about her voice but she totally delivered.
It was excellent! I love the idea that the sessions are at Songkick's HQ. It makes the company look very friendly and opened.
The atmosphere was super cool. Everyone drinking beer and sitting on the floor, really chilled, which is nice for a gig like Julia's.
Julia and the band were amazing! The sound was pretty good.
Thanks so much for the invitation I'll try not to miss the next one!
PS: I loved the Amy Poehler poster in the bathroom

Julia’s assertive charm comes across in both her music and her on stage presence, the only difference being she is funnier in between her songs in which she contemplates what it means to be a woman viewed through her own lens, that of the men she’s loved, and of a perspective that shift as time goes on. Her voice is powerful and note perfect and especially enjoyable when she closed the show with an April Lavigne cover.
Julia Jacklin is pure magic.

One of the most amazing musicians I've ever seen perform. Yes, I cried just being part of the audience.
Julia Jacklin and her band were absolutely amazing!! The venue was great, the staff and the security were lovely and the performance was jaw dropping. I had an absolutely fabulous time :)
Slow songs never sounded so good and the upbeat ones can't be faulted either. Julia has a Lovely voice and presence. Cool band along for the tour. Nothing not to like.
Fantastic show! Great music. Julia is just as hauntingly stunning in real life as she is on her records. It was a lovely evening. 10/10 would for sure see her again!
