Biography

  • Chunk! No, Captain Chunk! Is a pop punk/ metalcore band from Paris France. The band is also known by their acronym, C!NCC!

The band was formed in 2007 when guitarist Paul Wilson invited his friends Bertrand Poncet (vocalist), Jonathan Donnaes (drummer) to form a band to experiment with hardcore punk and heavy metal music. Shortly after they invited Eric Poncet (guitarist) and Mathias Rigal (bassist) to join them. In late 2008 the band released their first single “In Friends We Trust” followed a year later by their first (Self-produced) album, “Something For Nothing.”

In 2011 they signed a record deal with California based Fearless Records, who re-released “Something For Nothing” shortly after. That same year the band also joined The Artery Foundation’s “Across the Nation” European Tour, followed the next year by a tour of North America; including a spot on the Vans Warped Tour. After the extensive touring supporting various other bands, the Chunk! No, Captain Chunk! returned to the studio in 2013 to record “Pardon My French,” which was once again followed by extensive live performance for festivals and supporting tours. In May 2014 the band announced the release of a deluxe edition of “Pardon My French” which would feature an additional three previously unreleased tracks, as well as an acoustic version of their song “Taking Chances.” Also in 2014 the band found themselves once again on the Vans Warped Tour circuit.

Live reviews

  • Chunk! No, Captain Chunk!

Despite having quite possibly the most ridiculous band name I’ve yet come across - and bear in mind, this is coming from somebody familiar with the likes of Gay Dad and Shut Your Eyes and You’ll Burst Into Flames - you do at least have to credit Chunk! No, Captain Chunk! for being that rare thing; a rock band from outside of either the U.S. or the UK who have still managed to permeate a scene that’s generally been most commonly associated with those English-speaking countries. The Parisian four-piece - who took their name from a scene in the film The Goonies - have a kind of Jekyll and Hyde dynamic to their sound - they’re breezy pop punk one minute, and aggressive, growled metalcore the next - but have still managed to carve out a cult following the world over, thanks in no small part to support slots to the likes of Polar Bear Club and All Time Low, amongst others. Last year’s cheekily-titled Pardon My French was supported by a slew of dates worldwide, with the group’s fanbase solidified by thrillingly energetic shows that blended both sides of their sound neatly; now that they’re established, it’ll be interesting to see what they do next.

  • Perhaps there was some form of miscommunication when Parisian pop punk outfit Chunk! No, Captain Chunk! were trying to come up with a band name as not only does it not make a lick of sense, it is also a grammatical nightmare. Perhaps this is a touch of the British pedantic, fortunately the music that this quintet creates is of a higher quality altogether.

Bert Poncet and co are clearly having the times of their lives travelling the world and sharing their angsty sounds with the fanbase and each other. Their recent trip to the UK was considered a success by fans and critics alike as they piled into small venues to see the five piece recreate music from the first couple of albums as well as previewing the recently released 'Get Lost, Find Yourself'. The energy levels are so high and the audience are singing, dancing and jumping long all night under the command of Bert. By the finale of 'In Friends We Trust' the feeling of unity and mutual appreciation is absolutely fantastic and this is something you can only achieve in a really intimate venue. Vive La France!

  • Holy hell it was wild when chunk came on the mosh pit was crazier than ever. They really know how to get the crowd going and they were so damn good sounding. I'd give them a 9/10
