The Builder is a year-long journey with Ron Pope. Every two weeks from July 23, 2020 to July 22, 2021 a song will be released. This includes acoustic versions of fan favorites, live renditions from across the country, and brand new recordings from Ron Pope’s song book.
The Builder was born from a time of uncertainty. With tours cancelled and his album cycle upended, Pope found himself seeking normalcy and community. While his career was put on pause, he effectively became a stay-at-home dad. Slowly, his priorities shifted as he realized that not only could this time be looked at as a gift, but it could be used as an opportunity to reimagine what his life could look like in the future. While contemplating a new reality and trying to navigate rough waters Ron Pope asked these questions: Why sit in the same formulaic cycle? Why seek validation from places that didn’t care to give it? Why sit idly during unprecedented times?
In asking these questions of himself, he realized that the community his music created was also seeking answers to similar questions. Weekly online shows allowed free conversations and inspired creativity (LIVE! And In Sweatpants!). Pulling from unreleased songs and reimagined fan favorites, Pope decided to embark on a year of connecting and leaning into the community that has supported him all along.
It was time to let go of preconceived notions about what was expected of him. It was time to take a step back and focus on what really mattered.
It was time to rebuild.
Read moreWho knew when Ron Pope began his university career playing baseball that ten years later he’d find himself being an acclaimed singer-songwriter. Ronald Michael Pope began his music career by moving university to study music and discovering his future band mates and his true self. The band, The District, were a hugely successful college band who went on to tour America and record three albums before splitting. Following this, Ron Pope got his big break as a solo artist when he performed on MTV’s TRL, being branded ‘an up-and-coming artist’. In 2009, he signed a year-long recording contract with Universal Republic. However, the majority of his music comes from both before and after this when he wrote, produced and released music independently, bringing his discography to a grand total of eleven albums. His music has been featured on hit television shows The Vampire Diaries and 90210, where his warm voice was used to force a tear to the eye of any viewer watching the emotional scenes. But none of this compares to the incredible experience of hearing that voice reverberate around the venue at one of his live concerts. I felt every hair on my body stand on end as I stood in a sea of fans, softly swaying as the crowd sang every word of “Shoot Out The Lights” with him. My heart fluttered when the venue erupted as cheers escaped our mouths witnessing him flow into an inspiring piano solo during “A Drop In The Ocean”. His simple set design, casual clothing and relaxed demeanour brought us closer to him, willing us to feel his passion for music and his mischievous grin was echoed on each and every face as we saw that passion materialise in front of our very eyes in the form of sheer talent.
Truly one of the best concerts I've ever seen! The quality of the music was top notch, and Ron Pope told funny stories between songs. It's a shame that the concert wasn't better attended, but on the other hand it made for a more intimate group. I hope he makes many more stops in North Carolina, because I'll definitely go!
The two other groups, Truett and Melodime, were also fantastic. I was excited to hear some new music from musicians I hadn't heard of before. I didn't stay behind to see if Ron Pope and his band would be signing autographs, but I did buy a CD from each of the bands and Truett and the members of Melodime all autographed them and were very nice and pleasant to meet. I'll be trying to catch them on tour again.
Four of us went to see Ron Pope at City Winery in DC. It was a fantastic show, the sound/acoustics in the building were of excellent quality, and the venue itself was intimate and comfortable. Savannah Conley opened for him. She was very entertaining and fun! During Ron’s performance we found his commentary and background about the songs to be very enjoyable and meaningful. It was fun to learn about the background of his music! Overall, it felt like we were just hanging out with Ron Pope for the evening and listening to his more than perfect voice (every bit as good as studio quality!). We all would highly recommend going to his concert! We will go again for sure!
Ron Pope's concert is probably the best concert I've been to. He is of course a great singer and has incredibly good songs, but he also interacts with the audience. He talks a lot with the fans and tell stories and also jokes. It makes it so much funnier but it also makes him more human and not a artist that sings the songs and then it's over.
I've been to Ron Pope's concert one time before and I am not disappointed at all. Ron Pope is a amazing singer and also an amazing person that really has fun at the stage.
He is really awesome!
Honestly this was the best concert I have ever been to. The heart of and national parks were super awesome and Mr. Pope put on an amazing show as well. I recommend to everyone to get some tickets to a show of he's going to be in your area. Kicked some serious ass for sure.
This show was the best!!! The venue was small and not overcrowded. Ron was amazing. Loved the energy, full band with saxophone, trumpet, violin, etc. Truly fantastic!!! I'd see him again whenever possible.
Killer show - very up close and personal. Lots of instruments on stage which gave a nice touch to the show. Ron engaged the crowd in a really nice way and even played among them. So much fun!
Ron pope is a good example of exactly how to take each of his songs even ones that you dont neccesarilt like and force you to love them in his performance. A true musician with a
