  The German DJ duo, Âme, has a whole new approach on how a DJ should compose music. Instead of strictly reminiscing on the past and using old samples they try to look to the future of music with experimentation to create their own unique sound for dance music. Âme often creates a sound that can be dark and eerie, but it still remains highly danceable. They usually steer clear of the cliché of overusing upbeat funk samples and focus on a style that is strongly influenced by Detroit techno and Chicago deep house music. The duo’s music has a strong presence of the deep, rich sounds of drum and bass that are the driving force behind the music. Arpeggios of warm analog sounds are played in atonal scales creating an edgy sound similar to something that Kraftwerk might produce. Âme also focuses on rhythmic variation and layering. They know exactly how to take a melody and repeat it with unique variations until they build it up to its musical apex. Their music sometimes resembles a sound that might be heard on Radiohead’s King of Limbs album. They are able to produce songs that have hauntingly beautiful and atmospheric components, but still make you want to dance.

  Although none of Âme’s live music seems to be created using instruments, the way the duo manipulates their samplers and mixers somehow creates a highly organic sound. The duo often samples vocals that have a futuristic and robotic sound and repeat these samples as a form of vamp throughout their music. Âme usually performs at unique clubs that turn into raves whenever they take the stage. Their performances consist of bright lights flashing all over and non-stop dancing from the audiences. Âme’s music is a breath of fresh air for any person who is looking for a unique and original representation of the DJ scene, and the duo is sure to impress all diehard fans who are yearning for the classic sounds of deep house music.
