Seeing two of my favourite DJs collaborate at a live show was incredible, and the performances of their mix tapes was more than I could have hoped for. The two DJs were great at interacting with each other, and their excitement of performing together created a great energy that was contagious throughout the venue. They opened the show with Brainfreeze, and worked through the mixtape, whilst dancing behind their decks, throwing their arms in the air, and getting everyone involved.
They both had microphones, and would shout out to the audience to get involved, and had us all dancing and singing along for pretty much the whole 2 hours of the show! Watching them grab records from their huge pile, and putting on tracks on top of their original work to sample within their songs was incredible, and really great to see done live, as it looks incredibly complicated! Of course DJ Shadow is renowned for his extensive work in sampling, and the way that he uses and adapts old music and electronic jazz is an incredible skill.
Watching the DJs work from such a huge desk really demonstrated the complexity of their work, and seeing it unfold before your eyes makes you appreciate elements of the tracks that are easily missed on recordings.
