Biography

  • Wednesday 13 (born August 12, 1976) is the solo stage name of of heavy metal and horror punk vocalist and musician, Joseph Poole, who is also known as a member of the groups Murderdolla and Frankenstein Drag Queens from Planet 13, haling from Lexington, North Carolina, U.S.

Joseph Poole’s earliest musical excursion came playing guitar in the heavy metal band Misery, which later changed its name to Psycho Opera. Following his departure in 1992, the singer formed the Maniac Spider Trash alongside guitarist Abby Normal, bassist Michael Patrick, and drummer Sicko Zero. The band’s debut release was the 1994 EP “Dumpster Mummies”, followed a year later by the full-length “Murder Happy Fairytales”.

Again featuring guitarist Normal and drummer Sicko Zero, Joseph Poole’s subsequent band, Frankenstein Drag Queens from Planet 13, was formed in 1996. From 1996 to 2002, the group issued the studio albums “The Late, Late, Late Show”, “Night of the Living Drag Queens”, “Songs from the Recently Deceased”, “Viva Las Violence”, the compilation “6 Years, 6 Feet Under the Influence”, and the box-set “Little Box of Horrors”. Following work with Slipknot’s Joey Jordison and his horror punk band the Murderdolls, Poole focused on his solo releases under the Wednesday 13 moniker later releasing his debut “Transylvania 90210: Songs of Death, Dying, and the Dead” in 2005.

A year later Wednesday 13 followed the release with his second studio album “Fang Bang” in August 2006. Led by the single “My Home Sweet Homicide”, the record was marked by glam themes and represents the signer’s most playful album to date. The full-length “Skeletons” followed in 2008 as did the EP “Bloodwork” and the live record “Fuck It, We’ll Do It Live”. The following year in 2009, Poole formed the group Gunfire 76 and released the album, “Casualties & Tragedies”, the same year. In 2010 returning to work with the Murderdolls, the group released the album “Women and Children Last”, before issuing the Wednesday 13 EP “Re-Animated” in 2011.

The studio album “Calling All Corpses” appeared in 2011, after which he issued the EP “Spook & Destroy” in 2012, the full-length “The Dixie Dead” in 2013, and the acoustic album “Undead Unplugged” in 2014. Marking 10 years of Wednesday 13, the 84-track compilation “Dead Meat: 10 Years of Blood, Feathers & Lipstick” was released in 2014, featuring demos, remixes and songs from his other bands Murderdolls and Frankenstein Drag Queens From Planet 13. Following the release of the singles “Tunes From the Crypt V.1” and “Trick Or Treat… We’re Going To Kill You” in 2014, Wednesday 13 issued his sixth studio album “Monsters of the Universe: Come Out and Plague” in January 2015.

Live reviews

  • Wednesday 13

Wednesday 13 is the terrifying front man who is originally from the goth metal band, the Murderdolls, who had a pretty good run back in the late 90s and early 00’s with their dark music. Wednesday 13 pretty much took that Murderdolls sound and made it his own, releasing albums since 2004. Anyways, he performs tonight to a room full of Goths, as in, I’ve never seen this amount of Goths before, chains, platforms, make up, black, policeman hats. You can’t tell the gender of most people here. It’s weird. Not my cup of tea but apparently everyone elses.

Wednesday 13 walks out on the dimly lit red stage to such a loud applause, you would think that he is in fact the leader of the Goths – who go absolutely mental at his presence, let alone when he decides to finally start singing. He blasts into some of his biggest material from the last decade in the form of songs such as “I Walked With a Zombie” which is probably his biggest song to date. There’s something about this whole “goth” scene that just doesn’t make sense. All I’m listening to is heavy rock. There is nothing remotely Gothic about it, it’s just the image, but hey it’s the 21st century and image is everything!

  • I've seen Wednesday 13 about 13 times and this was their best show yet! And they've all been great. I am still amazed that more people have not caught on to what great music and a great performance that Wednesday and team put out. The music was powerful, energetic, heavy and darker than years past...all great for the direction the band is going. And of course they ended the night with the perfect combo of "I Love to Say F*#k" and "Bad Things." It could not have been a better ending and everyone in the crowd responded ferociously. Again, tell everyone you know that wants a great show, great music and a great time to get the new album and catch Wednesday 13 next time they play within 100 miles of you. Roman was fantastic as always on guitar and worth the price of admission. We also bought 2 shirts, tights for my girlfriend and plenty of drinks to keep supporting one of our favorite bands out there. Wednesday 13...keep rockin'!

  • This was my first time seeing Wednesday 13 in person, the band rocks just as hard in the flesh as they sound on mp3!

The set was too way short, a disservice to the crowd and the band. Wednesday and the band were full of energy, and Wednesday’s look with that mask on the back of his head was crazy cool. I realize two of his songs might be old now, but I was there to hear Blood Sick, Condolences, and to buy a Wednesday 13 T-shirt (need to offer one with tour dates on the back). I only got the T-Shirt! I don’t know Cradle of Filth, so I stay after the Wednesday 13 set for 1/2 hour and would have preferred Wednesday to play for another half hour! Come back and headline in NY you crazy azz looking Wednesday 13! Ur band rocks da house.

    Thx!

  • I was so anxious to see W13 for the 5th time. I buy tickets to whatever headliner they're warming up for, knowing they will please if all others don't. So, imagine my extreme disappointment when the Gas Monkey BG, told me they had cancelled due to three members being sick, get well soon guys! But, GMBG, should have announced it! Anyone who hasn't seen them before really needs to, asap! They are very theatrical on stage and will mesmerize you like no others. So when they get well, get to the nearest venue to see them and you will not regret it! Till that time...I will miss them more than I should have to!

  • I don't know wtf this had to do with Wednesday 13 unless it was just an endorsement like he says hey you should go see these other unknown mediocre groups that you thought were opening up for me and then when you were looking around in silence at 10pm as all the equipment started getting broken down....didn't you get a suspicion when the ticket costs 10 bux? And I will called it to be told upon entry, "we don't really have will call, but I trust you, can I see your id?" I was like cool what a guy! HE JUST LET ME IN TO SEE 2 BANDS THAT WERE NOT WEDNESDAY 13! FUH KEH YAY YAH. So about my refund?

  • I don't write reviews that are articulate and over elaborate, I write simple reviews about bands that impress me and I love. This is the third time I've seen Wednesday 13 in the last two years, never as a headliner, but now a band I really look forward to seeing just as much. Their performance is very theatrical, captivating and fun! If you like great raunchy horror rock; the likes of Rob Zombie, and a very updated and a more vulgar updated version of Alice Cooper...then you will love them! I have become such a fan! So if you like the metal genre at all, you won't be disappointed.

  • Wednesday, Roman, Jack, Troy and Kyle are at the top of their craft and never fail to exceed expectations. In the past 12 months I’ve seen them 6 times in the US, Canada and Europe and each time they bring more than the last. They have in me a fan for life and I just want to keep supporting their music with all I can. They put on an amazing show, the guys are great to hang out with and I very much look forward to their new album.

  • Wednesday, Roman and crew put on another great FU#@ing show! I can't believe Wednesday's ticket prices are still so affordable. I was paying more for shows in the 90's. As long as they keep going out I will keep supporting them, so even if I have to bring my walker and personal nurse I'll be there on the front row.

    Keep Rockin!!!

  • Always an amazing show, great sound live. Wednesday 13 is a phenomenal stage performer and always puts on the most asthetically entertaining set of the night no matter what band he is with. 13/10 recommend seeing the Duke of Spook live at LEAST once!!!
