  • Dishwalla

The stage is set simply, adorned only by the musicians: two guitarists and the vocalist in the forefront, flanked by the drum set and keyboard. Without much to do, the band launches into “Somewhere In the Middle”. As soon as the first chord is struck, the audience explodes into enthusiastic applause, then settles to a quiet roar when J. R. Richards starts to sing. Throughout the concert, the band members maintain an excellent quality of music, with guitar notes ranging from slow, melodious measures to quick and clever combinations and a steady drum beat in the background. Underneath it all, bassist keeps up a refreshing tune. Dishwalla, a Californian alternative rock band, released their first studio album, Pet Your Friends, in 1995. Their second album, And You Think You Know What Life's About, was released in 1998, followed in 2002 with Opaline. As a testament to Dishwalla's skill, all three albums made it onto the Billboard Top 200 list. Their fourth and latest album, Dishwalla, was released in 2005. “Counting Blue Cars”, the band's 1996 hit single, is their most well known song. Over the years, the band has made a few changes in the line up, most notably the replacement of lead singer J. R. Richards with the band's previous guest vocalist Justin Fox. In spite of these changes, Dishwalla has preserved the same alternative sound that people love so much. If you haven't seen Dishwalla live, it's time you saw them, and if you have, go and see them again! Dishwalla never disappoints, and every concert brings the same awesome sound that will leave you rockin all night long.

  • Angels or Devils has to be one of my favourite singles released by any band over the last 10 years, and so Dishwalla were top of my list to see when they came touring. Although this was of course post-hiatus and the line up had slightly changed, I was still super excited to see them, and quite rightly so, the new guys are awesome! They played mostly fro their 2005 self titled album, which was awesome, as I’d not heard it live before. I find with these guys that they sound amazing recorded, but there’s nothing like hearing Rodney Cravens rock out live with their post-grunge style. They came onto the stage looking pretty chilled out as always, and got the audience pumped by clapping their hands, and encouraging jumping up and down. They started with the famous Counting Blue Cars, which I’d expected them to save until later in the show, but it worked very well as an opener.

From start to finish the crowd were encouraged to dance, and we were singing along at the top of our voices for the entire show. The band was great at interacting with the audience, and even picked out a few people individually. I really think that rock and post-grunge needs to be seen live, and these guys showed exactly how to smash a live show.

I saw them years ago and fell in love with their sound (not to mention J.R. Richards - vocals, yummmm)

Very glad they're back together as band again and touring because they're just one of those groups that really put on a great show and his vocals are as strong as ever.

  • I love this band. I see them at least twice a year.

Most people think of Blue Cars when they think of Dishawalla but they have such an amazing span of songs.

Charlie Brown Parents, Truth Serum, Give, Miss Emma Peel and so much more.

The show was great plus the new Canyon Club in Valencia has a great feel.
