Biography

  • Dubbed “a master of creating anthems” by Paste Magazine and named by Alternative Press as “100 artists you need to know”, multi-instrumentalist, songwriter and producer, Bryce Avary, better known as The Rocket Summer has been a musical force since exploding onto the scene as a teenager in the 2000s.

With several albums in his growing discography debuting in top Billboard Alternative charts, Avary now returns with the new ever evolved album, SHADOWKASTERS. Named by Rolling Stone as “Songs You Need To Know”, SHADOWKASTERS evokes the sounds of what one might envision the walls of industrial clubs, UK dance punk halls and R&B thumping venues have reflected over decades, but with a mix and filtering unique to only Avary’s particular lens.

Having performed at Glastonbury, Austin City Limits and Summer Sonic, embarking on sold out headline tours around the world while sharing stages with artists such as Paramore, Goo Goo Dolls, Onerepublic, Switchfoot, Third Eye Blind, All Time Low and more, fans have flocked to Avary’s optimistic and exuberant song craft, polymath instrumental live show, and the fan community it inspires - an atmosphere which can be heard captured on the live album, His Instruments and Your Voices.

    A review from austincitylimits.com states:

“We’re not talking simple acoustic solo stuff here. The music Bryce makes as The Rocket Summer is lush, explosively catchy and artful power pop that hints at a new Brian Wilson or Prince in the making. Keep an eye out on this one. - Austin City Limits .com"

  • The Rocket Summer is a solo project from Bryce Avary. Avary is skilled with performing indie rock, alternative rock, and pop rock. His show was really a spectacle. The high energy was palpable. As for his attire, he was simply dress in a solid black t-shirt and skinny jeans, with his hair tousled a bit. The stage was wonderfully set up and complemented Rocket Summer's performance quite nicely. The venue was a swanky nightclub. The club was very nice with great food and refreshments.

The crowd really seemed to come alive as soon as he started performing his set. He really knew how to entertain a crowd. His set included many songs such as "Move to the Other Side of the Block", "I'm Doing Everything (For You)", "Tell Me Something Good", and "Goodbye Waves and Driveways". Each and every song was a hit with the audience. I especially loved "I'm Doing Everything (For You)". Such a memorable song. I will listen to it again and again in the future. It was a wonderful live show and The Rocket Summer is a fantastic live performer. I would totally buy tickets to see him in person again one day and hope that I will be able to soon.

  • Bryce is such an amazing artist! He connects with the crowd like no other artist I've seen live. He has fun while he's on stage and it's obvious from his constant smiling. Bryce told us that he learned more songs for this tour than he ever has before, just so he can play different songs every night of the tour and mix it up. He asked the audience at one point during the show what songs we wanted to hear. He took requests and I got to hear so many of my favorite songs! He's also an amazing musician. He switched up his instruments a lot and ended up playing the harmonica, guitar, drums, and keyboard all while singing at different points of the show. He jumped off the stage, walked through the crowd, and sang a whole song while standing on a speaker, and then he crowd surfed back to the stage. He is just amazing and he loves his fans. I would go watch him every night if I had the chance.

  • I attended the Do You Feel 10th Anniversary Tour on July 21, 2017, at Trees in Dallas, TX.

It was awesome!!! He played through the whole album, and everyone in the audience was signing along. I noticed that his vocals were lower than I would have liked in the mix, but I think this might have been done because he knew that with such a beloved album, everyone would be singing along with every word. It was a great community of fans, and his wife was there selling merch! Wholesome and hardcore all at once! Bryce sang some songs out in the crowd and crowd-surfed!

Vocally, he was in fine form, with some cool ad-libs in his falsetto range that really stood out to me.

There was also an awesome drum duet between Bryce and his drummer!

    10/10 would Rocket again.

  • The intimate, yet electric performance from The Rocket Summer left the crowd yearning for more. With an impressive set of near 2 hours, Bryce Avary played songs from his whole repertoire of music. His stage presence was highly attractive and entertaining. I loved his ability to play multiple instruments as well as interact with the crowd. Key moments from the show include his playing 200,000 which is near and dear to my heart (shout out to his guitar tech for requesting it), his playing FL, CA in the crowd, and the gratitude he expressed for supporting acts and for his fans. Definitely excited to see him again whenever he is back in town!

  • I've never seen a more up-beat, positive, and fun entertainer. I had high hopes for this concert after listening to their music for more than a decade - and it surpassed my expectations. He even had a request session during the encore, which I haven't seen from anyone in years.

    Bravo, Rocket Summer. Bravo.

  • Bryce killed it. He played the whole album along with his new songs and some good oldies. He had everyone dancing and singing. I will remember this night forever. Good times!
