Biography

  • Born in Middlesex, UK, Billy Idol was a child of punk, first fronting the band Generation X before becoming a worldwide, MTV-generation star in the 80s.

After packing in the English degree he was working towards at Sussex university, in 1976 Billy joined up with The Bromley Contingent, a group of Sex Pistols fans who went on to have an impact of their own after it formed Siouxsie and the Banshees and Generation X.

Billy became the lead singer of Generation X and made no attempt to hide the fact that they were going to do things a bit differently from other punk acts. Whilst peers such The Clash and The Sex Pistols wrote off the 60s pop of acts like The Beatles and The Rolling Stones, Generation X embraced it as their primary influence. This pop influence allowed them to become the first punk act to be featured on Top of The Pops and the band released 3 albums before disbanding.

This freed up Billy to pack his bags, head to New York City and pursue a solo career. Fusing his punk image with a hint of glam, Billy soon began to pump out the hits with songs like ‘White Wedding’ becoming an MTV staple. Billy unintentionally found himself becoming a part of the ‘Second British Invasion of the United States’, a period where numerous British acts found great success overseas fueled by the relatively new platform of MTV.

With the release of his next album ‘Rebel Yell’, Billy’s transformation into international super star was complete. Today he still plays sold out arenas globally and is a testament to what a young punk from Middlesex can achieve.

  • Billy Idol

Just from the image of Billy Idol you can expect that you are going to see a highly energetic performance when you attend one of his concerts. Billy Idol is one of a few musicians who can step on stage and immediately captivate the audience by his presence. His signature bleached spiked hair, his black leather jacket, and his macho like attitude are all important in creating the atmosphere for his performance. Although his appearance is highly engrossing, his music is what wins the audience’s hearts. Billy Idol has a highly dynamic style of performance. One moment he will take the role of a crooner, gently singing emotive songs such as “Eyes Without a Face”, and the next moment he will tear off his shirt and run fiercely around stage belting out the lyrics to the rock anthem, “Rebel Yell”. Billy Idol is backed by a very talented band consisting of guitarist Steve Stevens, who has been touring with Billy Idol since 1981. Steve Stevens is a well-versed guitar player having performed with many talented musicians including Michael Jackson, when he provided guitar for his album, Bad. Billy Idol’s music is also very interesting due to his use of synthesizers in his music. The synths provide a unique atmospheric sound that is often uncommon in hard-rock music. The whole band is very energetic when performing, especially Billy Idol who is constantly inciting the crowd to act wild and join in chanting his songs.

His setlist is sure to please the crowd with him performing most of his hits including “White Wedding” and “Love and Glory”. He will please diehard fans as well by playing older songs from his days in the band, Generation X. Billy Idol has proven to be a suitable name for him, as he is surely regarded as an idol of rock and roll performances.

  • Hi Billy,

Your Sydney show was absolutely breathtaking, you smashed it vocally, you still have incredible sex appeal, Steve was better than ever as was your band, your drummer worked his arms off. It was the best day so far of 2020 for me as I did the trip from the South Coast where I'm a wildlife carer for 18 years, taking a day off from filling up food and water stations at a wildlife sanctuary that was completely destroyed, while still doing search and rescue in the National Park which is still closed it was a nice change. You look incredible for 64 years of age, I wish I could have got a meet and greet package, as I have a beautiful wombat keyring that I wanted to give to you. I am halfway through your book, I don't want to put it down but have to attend rescues and wildlife. I follow your tours on Youtube and I kind of new what to expect, but I was wrong, it was better than Youtube, the connection with your fans was mesmerizing, I first saw you in 1984? at the Sydney Entertainment Centre and you are as good now as you were then, only you have much more new songs. Your tribute to your father was very touching and I'd like to thank you for sharing that with your fans, I love all your albums, Kings and Queens is just my favourite, but then so is Devils Playground, and Whiplash Smile, and Charmed Life.. well all of them really, but your music gets better and better with age, I can't wait till your next album. Keep on Rocking Billy Fucking Idol... Legend.. Kind or Rock and Roll... Your number 1 Fan.. Georgia Gowanloch (Australia)

  • I've got a ticket the night before the show uncertain if I should go.

Luckily there was tickets left because I didn't want to miss this one, that I know now.

Billy Idol's latest is not my kind of music. Doesn't feel Billy Idol in my mind. It got some good songs but misses the punch.

The show on the other hand. What a punch!

A glorious performance by the whole band.

Good mix of old classics and new ones.

Billy took good care of the audience and showed what an excellent live artist he is.

The songs had a mix of tempo, from quite calm acoustic like too my favourite speed metal tempo. That was a real surprise. Don't think the rest of audience appreciate that thou, but it showed the broad repertoire of Billy Idol songs.

They throw in a long guitar solo, reminded me of mariachi, kind of mexican style guitar play. I loved it. Some may say it was too long but the rest of the band went backstage during that time so I guess they needed the break.

I didn't mind, great work and lovely done.

So even if you are no fan of his latest work. Go see him live. He shines!

Billy Idol live is one of my top three konserts.

So if you get the chance, enlighten your life with the performance of Billy Idol and the band.

  • I've been in love billy with idol since I first saw the "White Wedding" video back in the day on mtv, and since then I've been hooked! I was blown away by his unique style and in your face personality. He is the epitome of 80's new wave punk rock music with such classics as rebel yell, "white wedding", and "dancing with myself".His bouncy and melodic sounds can't help but make u wanna sing and dance along to them. He continues to produce music and go on tour to this day but he has yet to recapture the notoriety he did in the 80's. But due to the reinfusion of punk rock in the 2000's He has managed to gain some fresh attention and reach a younger audience. In 2005 he released a new album called "Devil's Playground" and it made it to #46 on the billboard 200 chart. He's even made guest appearances in movies such as "the Wedding Singer" and "Highlander: Endgame". To this day his songs continue to get a lot of play appearing in games like Guitar Hero World Tour and Rock Band. He will for ever be the only Idol I worship ;)

  • I've seen Billy in concert more times than I can count over the past decades and he is only getting better with age! Billy Idol came onstage full of energy, with his fist pumping, lip snaring and voice bellowing. He engaged the audience from right to left, dancing and changing his shirts numerous times (even tossing one out to the crowd)!

Steve Stevens wowed the crowd with several guitar solos played in between songs. He teased the audience with the opening to Led Zeppelin's Stairway to Heaven. Later, He and Billy did a duet at the beginning of "White Wedding" before the rest of the band came on stage and joined in.

The band played all the hits including: Mony, Mony, Rebel Yell, Dancing With Myself, Eyes Without a Face, Cradle of Love, Sweet 16, blue Highway, and Ready, Steady, Go. They also performed songs from the latest album, Kings and Queens of the Underground. It was an exceptional night!

  • Whatever has taken over Billy Idol is damn good!!

Having seen the band a few years previously I had enjoyed the gig but compared to the gig I saw this evening you would believe it was a totally different band. From the moment Mr Idol hit the stage he had the crowd totally in his hands, whether classic hits or new tracks from his excellent new album the momentum just did not stop.

His sheer enthusiasm spilled off the stage and grabbed you a speeding train and every song was met by deafening applause upon ending. Of course having superb guitarist and showman Steve Stevens at his side along with Billy Morrison on rhythm and vocals and a killer bass and drum section helps massively to drive this locomotive.

My advice, don't miss them if they hit your town, you will be guaranteed a fantastic treat delivered by a true artist.

  • truly extraordinary concert with Idol really fit, very warm even with the public that the contrary has proved rather detached. Leaving aside the punk, Idol was completely dedicated to rock and rock'n'roll never go down a level. Steve Stevens single, currently among the 5 best guitarists in the world has been satisfied in some parts of flamenco, his specialty. The whole band is really good and up to the task. Billy seems reborn, physically perfect as always but more charismatic of previous concerts in Italy. Good acoustic of the room, with light effects well studied. Maybe a little small the stage but probably there would be a larger one. To see .......

  • Everything was amazing! From valet parking, to easy wait to get in, all employees were professional and Billy exceeded expectations! Looks and sounds better in person! My 17 year old son had the best time also, even met some great people who are now friends! Waited less than 5 minutes for our car and on the road back to Columbus with less than 10 mins of traffic as we left. Grateful for all the folks who clean the floors, served us to Billy and his road crew make it all happen on stage! Takes a lot of people and they all did their part! Safe travels and if you can, Billy is a not miss concert! Thanks Billy for doing it like it is the first time!

  • This is my second time seeing Billy Idol at the same venue. The show was good but much shorter this time around. It lasted just under 90 minutes with no encore

I was only disappointed with the length of time the show went on for, but I guess that's what you get with a casino.

First time I sat up front this time in the upper level.

Steve Stevens was as good as ever and I would say even better this time around.

Over all I would say the show was great but could have added more value to the ticket cost if it had lasted another 30 mibutes.

Catch Billy at a vebue with no time limits on the artist and you will enjoy yourself.

  • Another fantastic performance from Billy Idol, Steve Stevens and the boys, full of energy, great playing and fab tunes. Unreserved seating upstairs at the O2 Brixton leaves a bit to be desired, even if only 7 or 8 rows back there are lots of restrictive views due to positioning of cameramen, railings and audience who think it’s ok to jump up and down in front of you despite there being no standing allowed. Appreciate everyone wants to jump around and dance to Billy but would have preferred to take my chances on floor standing and jumped around with them but still loved the gig. Preferred seeing him at Hammersmith.
