Saliva is an American nu metal band currently formed of Bobby Amaru, Wayne Swinny, Dave Novotny and Paul Crosby. Formed in Memphis, Tennessee in 1996, the band’s most successful single is “Always” which went to number 2 on the US Mainstream Rock chart.
Saliva’s first critical success was their final-round placement in the Grammy Showcase Competition, which saw them perform in New York and pick up a considerable initial fan base. Soon after this achievement, Saliva self-released their debut album, “Saliva”, which helped them catch the attention of Island Records and eventually won them a record deal.
Signed to Island Records, the band released their second album, “Every Six Seconds” in 2001. The album placed at number 56 on the Billboard 200, winning the group considerable attention and the single “Your Disease” placed at number three on the Mainstream Rock Chart in the US.
In 2002 Saliva had their first top 20 album with the release of “Back Into Your System”. The commercial success of the album was helped significantly by the success of singles “Always” and “Rest In Pieces” written by Nikki Sixx and James Michael. The band’s fame increased further after being asked to tour with KISS and Aerosmith in 2003.
Saliva’s next two albums “Survival of the Sickest” and “Blood Stained Love Story” were both top 20 hits, but the band’s subsequent albums failed to generate the same success for the group. In 2011 lead vocalist Josey Scott left the group to pursue a solo career and since then the band has been pursuing a new direction with Bobby Amaru singing lead vocals.
Over the years Saliva has toured with the likes of Sevendust, Pop Evil, Aranda and Royal Bliss in addition to KISS and Aerosmith. In 2002 Saliva was nominated for a Grammy Award for their performance of “Your Disease”.
Read moreIt perhaps doesn’t bode too well when your band’s widest worldwide exposure comes as a result of your singer recording a duet with the lead singer of Nickelback, but that’s probably the case as far as Saliva are concerned; their former frontman Josey Scott teamed up with Chad Kroeger for ‘Hero’, the theme song from the first Sam Raimi-directed Spider-Man movie, back in 2002. In their own right, though, Saliva are a heavyweight rock outfit, having seen their second album, Every Six Seconds, go platinum back in 2001. That’s not to say that they completely rode the coattails of the nu metal movement, though; over the course of their careers, they also flirted with straightforward hard rock, industrial metal, and metalcore sounds, too. Saliva remain a going concern today, although Scott left the band in late 2011 to pursue a solo career in the Christian rock scene. The rest of the band decided to plough on anyway, bringing in Bobby Amaru as Scott’s replacement and quickly dropping two albums - last year’s In It to Win It and April’s Rise Up. Amaru continues to play old Saliva songs when they tour, but brings an altogether different energy to proceedings; he’s reinvigorated both his bandmates and the fans in the process.
Alternative metal band Saliva have achieved an unexpected amount of commercial success in the States although when you see the group perform live you are left with the impression that record sales do not really mean very much to them it is more about the ability to play to the fans in a live setting.
They practically run out onto stage like excitable children and take up the instruments in their characteristic somber attire. The fans immediately roar in response as they are equally excited at their presence as they know it is time to mosh, jump and stomp along to the cult anthems of their music. The group actually demonstrates some pretty fantastic instrumental ability whilst Bobby Amaru is in charge of making sure the whole room is involved. They run through a setlist that reaches upon almost all of their albums before it runs to a climax for the crowd of 'Your Disease' which sees the volume turned up to max and the whole room cheering to a point where they are violating noise pollution levels.
The Saliva show on Dec. 1st at The Hideaway in Jackson, MS was phenomenal. Saliva always puts on such a great show, there is so much energy. Bobby always get's the crowd going, but they all are really into getting the crowd in the mood. The venue was great, there were lots of people there, but best of all I had a meet and greet with Saliva, the Bus Hang and it was great. Their tour manager is a great guy, but most of all they all are so laid back, very accommodating and genuine. Such a great group of guys. I would advise any who loves rock music to go see a Saliva show. It's the best. Worth the ride to a venue.
This was my first time seeing Saliva and they did NOT disappoint!! Their energy is super high and they nailed it all— AWESOME show!! Can’t wait to see them again!! The only thing that wasn’t good was the sound system at the venue— the singers were drowned out by the bands & at times it was like their mics were off...but that’s on the venue.
This is the third time I've seen Saliva live and first acoustic set! I LOVED It! I love both sets. And was not let down. Bobby(lead singer) even hung around after the show and had few drinks with everyone and took pictures!
They sounded as great as day one I heard them....gets the fans to rock....this is my 2nd time but by far the most fun...held in a smaller venue that made you feel it was your own personal party....They kicked ass(oops)
Would have been nice to get a memo that it was last night. I guess I should use another service. I really wanted to go and was looking forward to it. Well maybe next year if they are playing in the area

Seen your band at the Thompson House in Newport ky. You were awesome. My boyfriend and I had a blast of a time and can't wait till you guys return. Please please don't make us wait long. Lol
Awesome show! They were really amped up for the show and had great audience participation. Great guitar solos from Uncle Way Way and nothing like some great Saliva tunes to make the night!
