  • Vampire Weekend

After standing in the same spot for six hours, seeing three different concerts, with no bathroom breaks or lunch - my friends and I quickly became acquainted with the people around us (sharing water, granola bars, fruit snacks, etc. to keep us alive) - I finally got to see Vampire Weekend! It was quite surreal, being in the first couple of rows and being able to see the beautiful stage setup in detail. There were white Grecian-styled pillars that were suspended in the air with revolving spotlights attached to the bottom of them. The lights would move throughout the show to the beat of the music. The tapestry-like background had a mirror in the middle that changed throughout the concert, sometimes reflecting out into the audience or procuring an image, making it look like a picture on a wall. Being at Lollapalooza for all three days, I had seen many cool stage setups, but the Vampire Weekend one was by far the most beautiful that I saw.

The vibe in the crowd was full of energy and excitement - there was lots of throwing of toilet paper rolls onto the stage, and I remember at one point in time the lead singer (Ezra) threw one of the rolls back into the crowd! Everyone was singing along to all the songs and dancing. It was such a great time! The band was so good and amazing live, and it was obvious that they had been doing shows for quite some time. One of the most memorable moments of my Lolla experience happened during this concert. During the song "Giving Up the Gun," this random, shirtless guy in a durag pops out of nowhere and runs on to the middle of the stage, flailing his arms in excitement. Clearly this wasn't planned, because Ezra looked so confused. However, before anyone could really register what was going on, not one or two, but FOUR security guards tackled the guy down! It was so hysterical, and I couldn't believe this was actual happening. They finally dragged him off the stage, and while this whole spiel was going on, Vampire Weekend continued to play like nothing was happening. This showed how experienced there are at performing live. It was only a couple of days later when I found out how that guy miraculously got up on the stage (YouTube). This concert brought back so many middle school and high school memories of me jamming out to their music wherever my sisters and I could find them online. Looking back to that time in my life, I never could have dreamed that I would one day see them live. It was such a great and eventful experience that I will never forget!

  • Recently Vampire Weekend was playing an arena in my city, but I was hesitant to see them on such a big stage. Listening to their music is a bit like a conversation with a philosophy lecturer set to joyful music. Would an intellectual, indie-American pop band from New York be able to fill an arena both in sound and performance? It didn’t take long for me to find out...

The crowd was gathered in tight on the floor with a few people electing to stay in the upper seats. Every one was tense with anticipation. When the band finally took stage, Ezra Koenig (the lead vocalist) took a minute to absorb the energy from the crowd and then jumped straight into the song “Cousins”. The atmosphere was awesome - everyone was rushing from side to side, but Ezra was looking cool, hiding behind his guitar and shades.

They played “White Sky” next and everything started to settle down. The crowd became mellower and at that point you can definitely start to hear the more technical aspects of their music. It should be noted that this band doesn’t miss a beat live and actually somehow sound better—technically—live then they do on the album. The band ended their impressive set with “Cape Cod Kwassa Kwassa”. No one in the building could stand still. Everyone was clapping and dancing with band. As Ezra finished the final notes he told us we were the best city he had ever played. I couldn’t believe it.

  • These guys really surprised me. I expected nerdy and musical. I got a band that was totally comfortable in front of a big crowd and looked like they were having a great time leading the party for the whole two and a half hours. Their 7 piece unit included 2 full drum kits, which drove the high energy bouncing through the crowd all night. Highlights included old favorites A-Punk and Cape Cop Kwasa Kwasa, and Cousins. Lead singer Ezra Koenig's voice was note perfect for the whole show and was spot on beautiful when the band slowed down for Hanna Hunt. The 5 song encore included two requests from the audience. First, an ultra-cool version of Diplomat's Son with a mid-song diversion into reggae classic Pressure Drop. After that came a rollicking version of Walcot. Great fun was had by all. Don't miss these guys if you have a chance to see them.

  • From the first notes to the last, the Vampire Weekend Father of the Bride (FOTB) concert at Echo Beach in Toronto on Wednesday, June 5th was pure fun. The band engaged with the audience and played almost all of their most popular songs (save Walcott and Diplomat's Son) as well as many of their new songs from the FOTB album to the joy of the audience. People were dancing and singing along, and not even the constant rain could stop their enjoyment. The acoustics at Echo Beach were amazing no matter where you were standing. A great venue for the kick-off to their FOTB tour. There was threat of a thunderstorm earlier that day and fear that the concert would not take place. Much to the delight of all the fans, the concert went on and it was one for the memory books.

  • The Vampire Weekend concert was fantastic! I was very impressed with the whole band's synergy and musicality. The setlist flowed well and was really exciting. Often in the middle live shows, I have a moment of exhaustion due to standing for several hours and/or not being excited by the last few songs. But this didn't happen during Vampire Weekend. They kept my attention and excitement up the whole time, which is really impressive for 27 songs. Overall it was a great concert, and I will make sure to go to the next Vampire Weekend show in my area.

  • Alright. If you ~like~ Vampire Weekend before you see them, you will flipping love them with all of your heart afterwards. They're having a blast, they make sure you are too. It's a longer-than-usual show and I wished it were longer, but as Ezra said, there's a curfew. Boooo. They play what seems like every song in their discography and if you feel like they're missing one of your favorites, stay tuned for the encore. Anyway, it was sick. Don't miss it for the world or else they may not come back for another 6 years! ☺

  • Amazing amazing amazing show, lost my mind to so many songs, Walcott was the perfect closer. I'd seen VW back in 2011 iirc, but it wasn't nearly as good as this. Their songs have aged very well, and I love them even more now than I did then. I got cheap seats at the Bowl, and we actually ended up dancing up in the alleyway behind section W, since room between seats was minimal. Great experience, hope to see them again at a festival maybe.

  • The first night of the tour at a packed Usher Hall in Edinburgh, if that isn't the band warmed up yet then the rest of the tour is going to be amazing.

A great selection of tracks from the repertoire plus a couple of audience requests and a Springsteen cover thrown in.

Not may tickets left for the tour but if you get the chance to see them you won't regret it and hopefully they will be back in Edinburgh sooner than later!

  • Wanted to start with a little blues aficionado fix and was not disappointed with Kingfish putting on a good performance. Set was creative and fun with the globe taking up all the stage. Vampire Weekend sounded crisp and dedicated. Much enjoyed they’re full show. Music was on point and very enjoyable. Energy was high all night which I’m still mentally processing. Felt amazing being in the pit area.
