Biography

  • Arch Enemy is a Swedish melodic death metal band, often referred to as a super group which currently consists of Michael Amott, Daniel Erlandsson, Sharlee D'Angelo, Alissa White-Gluz and Jeff Loomis.

The members of Arch Enemy were previously in bands such as Carcass, Mercyful Fate,Carnage, Spiritual Beggars, Eucharist and Armageddon which means Arch Enemy is considered to be a metal super group. The idea originates with Carcass guitarist Michael Amott and Johan Liiva. The band has gone from strength to strength over its career and has released ten studio albums to date, the first 'Black Earth' was released in December 1996.

The early albums only achieved commercial success in Japan, yet the fifth album 'Anthems of Rebellion' charted across Europe whilst the sixth 'Doomsday Machine' appeared on the US Billboard. They toured extensively worldwide to support each of their releases, with a large amount of tours in Asia due to the early success they enjoyed there. They filmed a live DVD 'Tyrants of The Sun' in Tokyo and headlined the Melon AX Hall in Seoul, South Korea.

Their highest charting US album is 2014's 'War Eternal' which reached #44 on the Billboard charts. It also appeared on numerous charts across Europe as well as being their eighth chart appearance in Japan. Lead vocalist Angela Gossom left the band in March 2014 and took over the role as manager instead. Long term guitarist Nick Cordle also left the band in 2014 during the North American tour which was in support of the release of 'War Eternal'.

Live reviews

  • There's nothing like an Arch Enemy concert. I was worried that Alissa wouldn't be able to fill the shoes of Angela (who could?), but she was incredible. There's an energy that Alissa has that I haven't heard from the band in a long time.

Arch Enemy has always been one of my favorite death metal bands to see live. A lot of them just can't put on the kind of performance that lives up to the albums. Arch Enemy has no problem doing that at all. It's a shame that Angela left the band, she's been one of my favorite vocalists in the metal scene, but Alissa definitely puts on a show. Hearing her sing "We Will Rise" was incredible, and the stuff from the new album was great too. War Eternal doesn't disappoint, and the band does it justice live. Nick does a killer job.

I'm going to be honest - I was really worried when I heard that Angela and Christopher had left the band. I hadn't heard about Chris leaving until I found out about Angela, and I was freaked out. The new album was great though, and then this concert? Amazing. I shouldn't have been worried. Definitely go see them live if you get a shot. Best concert of the year, so far.

  • This was a really great show. I saw them together with 3 other bands (Kreator, Sodom, Vader) and they definitely stood out as the main event for me, even though they weren't technically headliner. They should have been in my mind. Alyssa is a really great addition to the band's lineup. She has a great stage presence and goes all in. The sound was mixed really well and the mixture of tracks was a great choice. Really love how the new album sounds live. It didn't disappoint one bit, I'd even go far enough to say that "You will Know My Name" was even better live than on the album. The light show accompanying it all was great. Not sure if they can do that at every venue, but I sure hope they can for all the other fans. If you love Arch Enemy you will go see them live soon I'm sure. If you like them you will have to go see them live and you will love them after \m/

  • Wow! Arch Enemy were just incredible, after waiting a really really long time to see them live i finally had the chance and they did not disappoint! The sound was just incredible i could hear every instrument clearly along with Alissa's screams. They were all extremely professional not a single note missed, and they were all happy to be on stage playing as i could see smiles all around. They knew how to put on a show, and i left with the biggest smile on my face after seeing my favourite band live. The only thing that could have topped it off for me would be to have met the band. However being right at the front and being able to see everything was more than enough.

  • Awesome show all around. For me While She Sleeps stoke the show even though I never heard of them before. Portland seems to be more of a Trivium crowd as everyone was way more into them. I was personally there for Arch Enemy but some people left after Trivium and the crowd never got as crazy.

I’m wondering if this tour is seeing different towns be more into one band or the other. I never cared for Trivium but they still did a good show. Arch Enemy was heavy as hell and amazing too. The crowd sadly kind of hurt the Arch Enemy performance since most people didn’t know the words to the songs and weren’t going as wild for them.

  • Killa show..Arch enemy where in Australia for the Download festival in Melbourne but played smaller shows in other cities..I was lucky enough to catch them at Fowlers Live in Adelaide..To see Arch Enemy in such a small venue holding around 500 people was amazing..being so close to the band was great..Alissa was the bomb as were all the guitarist and the drummer was pretty cool to..Really enjoyed the show..I would recommend seeing Arch Enemy especially if you get the chance to see such an amazing band in a small venue.

  • Concert was pretty good. High energy and great stage presence by the band. Really enjoyed watching the show. Sound on the other-hand was not so great.

I think it was a factor of the venue more the band, because the mix was off for most bands playing that day. Guitar/bass/drums were clear but the vocals were either too soft, or muddy. I've noticed that death growls often sound bad at the Regency, which is a shame considering how many metal shows they play.

    Would definitely see them again.

  • The opening bands were amazing, and when Arch Enemy came out they blew the crowd away. Everyone was excited, and the lighting and effects were great. The backstage crew at Gas Monkey did an amazing job. Alissa came out and completely rocked the entire show along with all the band members. Each song was performed fantastically and everyone enjoyed it. A fight broke out within five minutes of them coming out, which ended up being hilarious.

  • The main reason I went was because of AE being a headliner. Probably one of the best concerts I've been to in a long time. The energy was intense, the bands we're active and seemed to be having a good time... Which always affects the crowd in a positive way. AE was great. Trivium was good too. Great, I'm sure, but I'm not into them personally. The opening acts were king of monotone and boring. But overall, the show was great.

  • Unbelievable show!! I left House of Blues speechless. Arch Enemy are professionals. No question of talent and expertise from all members. I couldn't believe the amazing live vocals from Alissa. I was blown away by her power! Great hometown show for Trivium as well. Both bands really set the precedent with this opening show of the tour. Cant wait to see Arch Enemy Again!! Might be my new favorite band!!

  • An amazing show with lots of warmth and really professional and virtuoso band members. One of the absolute best concerts I've been to !! Ever! Cute and so skilled Alissa pushed the audience and her stage magic is very special! The guitars were usually super well-playsed by Michael and Jeff.
