Biography

  • The View are a Scottish indie rock band originally from Dundee and consists of Kyle Falconer, Kieren Webster, Pete Reilly, Steven Morrison and Paul Band.

The View initially formed around a cover band at school, playing their own versions of bands such as Squeeze and the Sex Pistols and a number of their own songs at school talent contests. The band began to tour the small venue circuit around their hometown and after their second billed gig at The Doghouse, they were signed to local independent Dundee record label Two Thumbs, and released a self-titled EP in early 2006. This gained the band attention from Radio 1 DJs including Zane Lowe and Edith Bowman along with Radio 2 DJ Dermot O'Leary who gave the band a substantial amount of airplay before the LP was even released.

The album 'Hats Off to the Buskers' was released in early 2007 and featured four top 40 singles, including their highest peaking release to date 'Same Jeans' which entered the UK top five upon release. This album won critical acclaim and the band were supported throughout by music publication NME, taking part in their Awards Tour that year alongside The Horrors and The Automatic. Their next album release 'Which Bitch?' came in 2009 and was a substantial disappointment in terms of chart success, it entered the UK album charts at #4 yet fell twenty seven places the following week before disappearing from the top forty the week after.

They didn't regain their chart status until the 2012 album 'Cheeky For A Reason' which entered the UK top ten chart and topped the chart in their native Scotland. In 2013 the band also released a compilation album entitled 'Seven Year Setlist' which featured their most played live tracks along with some new material. The band are known for their relentless touring schedules having never really taken a break from the road since the beginning back in 2006.

Live reviews

  • The View

The View The weather was glorious as The View strolled onto the stage. I’d been a big fan of The View since I saw them as relative newbies, supporting Babyshambles a number of years earlier. A perfect band for a beautiful August day I thought. The smell of suncream excited the nostrils, laughter filled the ears and cider was being drank and ‘soon to be spilled’ in ridiculous amounts. There was no doubt that the mood was jovial. They started of in full swing with ‘Same Jeans’, a catchy singable song and got the crowd were roaring with approval and singing along straight of the bat. There is something so ‘anthem’ like about their songs, instantly recognisable and ever so singable. Lead singer often bantered with the audience in his Dundee accent and clearly enjoying the show himself. They went through all their hits from they're cracking debut album ‘Hats Off To The Busker’ and also performed a brilliant cover of Squeeze’s ‘Up The Junction’ For me The View are a no nonsense, feel good, Indie rock band. If you want to dance to listen to some great pop/rock tunes, have a few drinks and feel happy. Seeing The View should certainly be penciled in on your calendar.
