Wallpaper is the music project of Ricky Reed, known for his heavy use of Auto-tune to create his minimal, hip hop-influenced, electronic pop.
Hailing from Oakland, California, US, Ricky Reed started creating songs on his computer in 2004, using auto-tune and his lyrics to satirise modern pop music, believing it to lack emotion and feeling. Although ironically, the use of auto-tune became a popular tool in mainstream music, through the likes of T-Pain, with Reed's songs also gaining popularity.
In 2009, he created his debut album, "Doodoo Face," released on Eenie Meenie records, which saw Reed, under the moniker of Wallpaper, move away from the previous satire and created more legitimate, well-written songs with finely crafted production. The album resonated with a strong Daft Punk influence through its popping electro-bass, such as in "Celebrity," where as "Fine GF" took a more refined, quiet electro sound reminiscent of Brian Eno. His electro-pop was melded with mainstream rap alongside his still auto-tuned lyrics, bringing Ricky Reed new fans.
His 2011 "#STUPIDFACEDD" EP expanded his popularity, with the song "Fucking Best Song Everr" reaching number eight on the US Dance chart. This success prompted an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel live, performing "#STUPIDFACEDD." By May 2013, the accompanying video to the song had almost four million YouTube views.
His major-label debut appeared in 2013, titled, "Ricky Reed is Real" which built on past successes, with the album peaking at number 10 in the Billboard US Heat charts. It featured the hit songs "Good 4 It" and "Drunken Hearts." As well as his solo success, Ricky Reed has also found work as a producer, creating Jason Derulo's global hits "Talk Dirty" and "Wiggle."

Over the last decade their music has grown and progressed in popularity due to the now mainstream use of auto-tune, and their music was channelled into popular culture.
Seeing them perform live was awesome, the energy and performance quality they brought to the show was electric, ad like no show I’d ever seen before. The satirical lyrics had the audience laughing and singing along at any opportunity. When they played Fucking Best Song Ever everyone was jumping around and singing at the top of their lunch. In the chorus the entire band dropped off of their instruments and they played acoustically whilst clapping to get the audience joining in.
Additionally, as their song #STUPiDFACEDD played on the trailer for 22 Jump Street, the band were making references and jokes about the film and the actors, and really engaging with their audience. It was a really fun gig, and a showcase of some genuine talent.
I saw Ricky Reed and Co. at Warped Tour 2k14 in Camden and the best part of the show was the fan interactions. There EXCESSIVE use of bass easily drew one of the largest audiences.
