  • RUEL

I have mixed feelings about this show. While it had amazing talent, sound and lighting, and I love Ruel very much, it was ruined by the fans in the mosh pit.

Me and my friends waited outside the venue for 13 hours to get good "seats". While we were waiting, there were all sorts of trouble with people who had just arrived pushing to the front. Once we got inside the venue, it immediately got super crowded. We made the second row, and because everyone was pushing up and trying to get closer to the stage, we were being crushed and pushed around. Words cannot explain how bad this mosh pit was. Multiple girls fainted and had panic attacks. Some even had to be lifted over the barrier in fear that their ribs would be crushed by the pushing of the selfish people in the back. By halfway through the opening act, who was amazing, we had been pushed back to the sixth row. My friend was shorter than everyone else, and because of this she couldn't breathe and started having a panic attack, as did multiple others. Once, a group pushed so hard that it knocked me over and I fell. Not only this, but the venue was kind enough to throw water bottles out into the crowd. These rude fans then proceeded to through them back to the stage once they were finished.

Me and my friend had to leave mosh, otherwise, she would have fainted. We had to go all the way to the back where we couldn't see. We literally could have got there five minutes before, instead of waiting 13 hours in the sun.

None of this is Ruel's fault in any way. It was the fault of selfish fans who couldn't be bothered to put in the effort. Everyone there loved Ruel, but some experience was ruined because of those who thought they were superior.

While it's not Ruels fault, it is possible to do something for his other shows. I suggest multiple barriers, i.e. multiple sections. The first fifty could be let into the first section, with a gap behind and then a barrier for the next few. There was so much space at the back for people to spread into, but everyone kept pushing forward. different sections would solve tiis.

The concert was good though, as the music was amazing, I met Chelsea AND I GOT TO SEE RUEL!!!

  • I was at the Sweden show, and it was probably one of the most memorable nights of my life.

While standing in line, waiting for the doors to open I didn’t notice any pushing or sneaking, and not in the moshpit either, so that’s really great on the fans’ side.

I personally recommend standing on the second floor of the venue if you can, or of course at the very front of the moshpit. On the second floor it wasn’t every crowded, and that’s great for people with anxiety, and the view was great. The reasons for being in the front are quite obvious: you can see him and the performance better, and you might get to touch him. Pro tip: if you’re planning on being in the front, come early and don’t stand in the middle or too far to any of the sides, because that’s where some of the speakers are.

Even thought it took a while for him to come on stage it was still worth it. But it was not Ruel’s fault at all! It was the sound that wasn’t really working in the beginning.

Throughout the concert security guards were passing out water to the people in the front, and they were kind enough to pass it to the people in the back, but I would still recommend to take your own water with you, because obviously there isn’t enough for everyone.

The show itself was very good and full of energy, and I also really liked the lights. It was beautiful to hear everyone sing along during some of the songs (especially the slower ones), but there was also a lot of screaming, and I don’t think there is any way you can escape that, but personally it didn’t bother me, as I was one of those people.

My favorite performances were Painkiller, Dazed and Confused and Golden Years, because there was just so much energy from the crowd and everyone was so hyped.

And during Younger (I don’t know if this is at all of the shows) Ruel sat down at the end of the stage, so again, I would recommend being in the front.

    Overall the show itself was A M A Z I N G, I loved it a lot, 12/10 would recommend.

  • Ruel's second show at the Forum, Melbourne this year was incredible and a huge step up from when I saw him at the Australian Open in January this year. His voice (somehow) seemed even better than it did only a few months ago, and obviously, the stage and backup band were better as it was a much larger show at a better venue. The atmosphere was amazing and teeming with energy, with the support act, Genesis Owusu, really getting the crowd into the mood for Ruel to come on. Ruel came on 15 min earlier than expected which was a bonus, and oozed charisma from the second he stepped onto the stage. There was a bit of a slow period near the middle of the show when Ruel played a couple of cover versions and some unreleased songs, but he ended the show with a bang with Dazed and Confused, Younger and finally Painkiller. In my opinion, they are definitely his three best songs and clearly the ones that the crowd enjoys the most based on the fact that every single person was singing along to those three tracks. Ruel just needs more music so that the setlist could be longer, but I'm sure after he releases a couple more EPs there'll be plenty of amazing material for him to play (and hopefully avoid the slow cover versions!) Sadly he only wore his plaid long suit for the last song which was a shame but nonetheless a fantastic show!!! The Forum is a stunning yet quite small venue but I'm sure Ruel will be selling out larger venues in the near future. I've been front row twice so can't complain if he starts selling out stadiums and the barrier is way further away from the stage!! Awesome night and looking forward to his next set of Melbourne shows already!

  • This is my review for the Ruel concert. Overall I had a really great night. Me and my sister got in the que about 3pm on Saturday afternoon. We were please to be number 234 and 233 in the que so we got wristbands. We thought this was a great idea as it made the queuing fair and the waiting in line worth it as we were guaranteed to be the first 300 people in. We made some friends in the que and stayed with them throughout the night and that made it really enjoyable. At around 6:50 they opened the doors and everyone ran to get in which mucked the order a bit. They checked our tickets and we headed inside. I’d say we were about 6 rows of people from the front which we were happy with but would have liked to be a bit closer. Ruels performance was amazing we could see him clearly most of the time and everyone looked like they were enjoying it. The only was that people tried to push to the front but as long as we stood our ground we didn’t move places. After the concert we lined up to buy merchandise and the line went really quick and we were able to get what we wanted. Overall it was really well organised a great night and I want to do it again. :)

  • OMG! where do i begin, Ruel has been my idol ever since he came into the industry. I never thought someone so young could make songs that can relate to me so much. Ruel's songs have changed my life a he's song painkiller relates to me as my friend Lily and I haven't seen each other for 1 or 2 years and ever since i had to move away for my dad's job i didn't know what i would do? i couldn't find who i was any more without Lily. when i moved i didn't and couldn't understand why it was so hard to make friends that had the same interests as i did, but when i first heard Ruel's song Don't tell me i felt as if i was back with lily and we where a whole again. Ruel's other song hard sometimes i can relate to as he is taking about how it is hard to be happy sometimes even thou you try to be to make other people happy.

I just wish there was a way i could meet Ruel and tell him how he has helped me trough the high's and the low times and how much of an influence he has made on me through his music career.

thank you for this review and i hope i will finally come face to face with him in the near future.

    Kind Regards

    Charlotte Welsh

  • His show was amazing but i think that 1 hour is a little bit too small of a show. I loved that destiny Rogers were the support singer, she was also soooo good. I wish he sang all of his songs and talked more to the fans/audience under the show. But he is an amazing singer and he sounds really great live. Me and my friends were just very unlucky. We waited 11 hours outside in Copenhagen in front of the concert place, and we were one of the first in the line. But at the place the guards had no control and everyone was cheating and running over the fences and nobody followed the line. That resulted in that we got a very shitty place to stand at the concert, even though we were one of the first ones in the line. But that’s definitely only something the “DR Koncerthuset” shall do something about, and it were their fault that people were cheating and that they had NO control.

But it was amazing to see him live❤️

Ps. I hope that he will come to Denmark soon again, so I can have a better experience (not his fault but..)

  • For someone who has only released a handful of songs it was incredible how Ruel had the crowd captivated (Jan 2019) with a really awesome setlist at the Aussie Open Live Stage. The backing band was a bit iffy but it didn't really matter because Ruel's voice and charisma was insanely good. It helped that we were right in the middle of the front row standing room but Ruel interacted so well with the audience that the show felt much more intimate than it actually was based on size. Can only see him getting better from this point on - the more songs he releases the better. Tbh he needs a few more upbeat bangers because the difference in hype from the crowd when he played his bigger hits like Younger and Dazed and Confused was INSANE - but some of the cover versions fell a bit flat. For such a lanky little cutie he has fantastic stage presence and his voice clearly does not need autotune to sound good! Come back to Melbourne already!! Easily a 4/5.

  • okay FIRST OF ALL, Ruel is absolutely nothing but amazing, spectacular, successful talented, tall, handsome, cute, literally EVERYTHING but bad. His concert was literally the best experience of my life. NOT Why Don’t We, NOT Maroon 5, NOT One Republic, NOT Nick Jonas or Alessia Cara, NOT Niall Horan...It’s RUEL VINCENT VAN DIJK. His intro song was Golden Years and MAN!! What a sick tune to get the energy started!! He continues on to his covers, other singles from his Ready EP, as well as a few unrealsed songs like Unsaid and Painkiller. HOTDAMNNN songs from some extremely experienced artistes don’t even have songs as meaningful and nice as Ruel’s. For a 16 year old, damn this boy is really working the world’s greatest miracles. And after the show i had VIP and he was the sweetest guy ever! like EVER! when i say his concert was the best experience of my life, i actually mean it HAHA. I REALLY REALLY WANT TO SEE HIM AND HUG HIM AGAIN!!

  • Ruel‘s band, his vocals, outfit, lyrics, dance moves, stage presence... everything was absolutely perfect. This was probably the concert I have spent the most money in my entire life on and I have no regrets at all, totally would go broke for Ruel again, whenever I got the chance. The whole concert was fantastic! Huxley‘s Neue Welt is also a great place for a concert.

What comes to the tour and the EP, the whole aesthetic is stunning. Also the merch? W-o-w. Beautiful. And the Meet & Greet? It was great, Ruel definitely gives the best hugs ever. Oh and his hair feels as nice as it looks.

The only complaint I would have is the fact that Don’t Cry, Say and Unsaid weren‘t on the setlist, but I guess Hard Sometimes caused enough tears on its own. Definitely one of the greatest concerts I have ever been to and will absolutely go see him again one day, even if I have to fly across the Atlantic. I know it is worth it.
