Carbon Leaf (formed in 1992) is an American indie rock band known for their prodigious output and alt-country, Celtic, and folk influences, hailing from Richmond, Virginia, U.S.
A touring mainstay and indie folk-rock staple, this Virginia quintet’s lively stage presence and musical inspiration pulls from Americana, folk, roots, rock, and pop traditions using acoustic & electric guitars, mandolin, banjo, fiddle, cello, bass, drums, penny whistle and vocal harmony.
With over 3,500 live shows spanning 30 years and 20 recordings, Carbon Leaf’s independent music and spirit continue to resonate with its fans.
In 2020 Carbon Leaf began working on the concept for a release slated for 2021, but was pushed back during the pandemic, and is set for release in 2024.
Read moreThis is the third year in a row that Carbon Leaf have come to New York during the summer, and they are always one of my favorite shows of the season, if not the year. These guys have been playing together so long and are such a solid band. They are really good about mixing up their sets and playing a mix of old and new material and never skimping on crowd favorites. This time, they played my most favorite song of theirs, "Desperation Song," which they haven't done in a while, so I was really pleased that I got to hear it live again. Carter continues to be a stringed instrument superman, playing at least six different types of instruments, not to mention different types of guitars and mandolins. Stand out moments include killer slide guitar playing and solo on "One Prairie Outpost," an awesome electric mandolin solo on "Raise the Roof," and an electric guitar solo that packed an emotional wallop during the encore/closer of "Let Your Troubles Roll By." I highly recommend checking out Carbon Leaf when they come to your neck of the woods; even if you've never listened to them before, you'll still enjoy the show!
Folk/rock band Carbon Leaf hail from Virginia yet their authentic sounds have taken them to places far further afield since their formation over two decades ago. Led by the singer/songwriter Barry Privett, the group has been consistently releasing studio albums despite not having achieved commercial success. Luckily the enthusiasm of the fanbase more than makes up for the lacking album sales and they seem genuinely moved as the masses sing back the choruses to their tracks.
It is refreshing to see a band so modest and genuinely thankful of their fans support. The crowd is at the heart of the operation and nearly every band member takes the time to interact with them, sharing stories about the group's formation and the meanings behind a number of their songs. The acoustics sound brilliant this evening and the five musicians harmonise perfectly for a chilling finale of 'Let Your Troubles Roll By' followed by an encore of 'Banish Misfortune' which receives the largest reaction so far as the band take a moment to enjoy the scene of the cheering audience.
Phenomenal show as always! I've seen them live about half a dozen times and they NEVER disappoint. The knitting Factory is a great intimate venue with nice seating and it puts you up close and personal with the band. Carbon Leaf played a great variety of their collection and some of my favorites (The War was in Color and the Boxer). Can't wait to see them again.
Such a great performance! These guys are so talented and reliable for good music and good times. I know they're about to celebrate their 25th anniversary, but they are still as prolific as ever, only putting out wonderfully written and inspiring songs that you can count on to brighten your day.
The Carbon Leaf show was great!! Very entertaining group of guys who put their heart and soul into their music and performance. I would highly recommend seeing them if you have the opportunity. I will definitely see them again next time they're in the area.
Another amazing show from my favorite band! This was my 9th time seeing Carbon Leaf, and they never fail to deliver an incredible night of music. If you’ve never seen them before, I urge you to buy a ticket! Carbon Leaf never disappoints!
Carbon Leaf delivered another high-energy, fun show! If you’ve never seen them, go! You won’t be disappointed. This band never “phones it in.” They work hard for their fans, and the music they make is simply perfect.
Absolutely fantastic show, set list, venue, and performance by top notch and talented musicians. Download all their music, buy merchandise, see shows, and support this talent. Great job guys. We love you.
