I’ve been struggling to find the right words to adequately describe Diego El Cigala’s voice. His singing is mournful yet uplifting, it’s a sound that comes from deep within his chest and bubbles up through his throat and into the room with a power that is unmatchable. His voice is haunting in the best of ways.
Diego El Cigala is a talented flamenco artist. His music fuses traditional flamenco with world sounds from the Latin American, Afro-Caribbean, Tango and Jazz traditions. His music is accessible and celebrated wherever he goes and it is no surprise that he has been the recipient of many Grammy’s over the years.
At one of Diego’s concerts, prepare yourself to be blown away by his talent and mastery of flamenco. This man can catch a rhythm you’re not even able to envisage until he’s singing it live on stage. His work is improvisational but intricate in a way that suggests extreme planning. Listen out for “Historia De Un Amor”, “Si Te Contara” and “Dos Gardenias” during one of his shows. All are incredibly popular songs and some of his best work, in my opinion. A Diego El Cigala show will be a night to remember, I guarantee it.
El Cigala is one of my favorite flamenco artists. I love the fact that he infuses other genres (Cuban rhythms and tango, for example) to come up with a unique and very contemporary flamenco sound. That is what I was hoping to hear/watch this past Saturday...
Unfortunately, it turned out to be a salsa concert, with only one flamenco song and a couple of hits from his past collection.
Diego is a phenomenal artist, with a great voice and talent... and I understand that he is trying to promote his new salsa record. I must point out that his pianist is very talented and did not disappoint. The band that played with Diego was also very talented in their own right; however, I did not realize when I purchased the ticket that I was going to signing-up for a salsa concert. Had I known, I would have passed.
I am sad to say that the show was one of the worst live performances that I have ever attended. The Venue was great but the performer had constant sound problems with his equipment. The audience was EXTREMELY rude , loud and not mindful of others, filming, FaceTiming and disrespectful.
The performer, in my opinion, failed to connect and was bureaucratic, I sensed no effort coming from him, his stage presence was null and I left the show after 50 minutes. I still like his music but I would not go to see him live anymore.
Great performance with a talented but unknown pianist to Californians. No brochure for program so was hard to get pianist name. I was lucky. El Cigala gave an engaging and “soulful” performance despite his suffering from a cold. Site promoters could have easily make an informative brochure including info about El Cigala’s recordings.
So, poor promotion on site, but great, unforgettable evening!!
It is always a great joy to listen and watch this amazing talent. His voice reaches my soul, it's a most extraordinary instrument. It broke my heart to know that his wife had passed away the day/night before and he still performed at the Hollywood Bowl to honor her as difficult as that was.
Thoroughly enjoyed this concert!
Bummed that I couldn't record or photograph during concert;although many were despite the announcements and signs.
I appreciated having an artist such as Diego El Cigala gracing the DMV region with his music.
Diego is such a tremendous soul singer who has singlehandedly made flamenco and vintage Spanish ballads popular again! I cannot wait to attend another concert to experience the range of emotions evoked by the maestro Diego El Cigala.
Amazing concert...perfect voice accompanied by great musicians. Love the salsa vibes that got me dancing. Would definitely attend his concerts again. Hopefully next time he sings more of his flamenco hits
