Biography

  • Elephant Revival (formed in 2006) is an American folk music five-piece known for incorporating a wide-spectrum of influences including Scottish and Celtic vocals, traditional folk, psychedelic country, bluegrass and jazz, hailing from Nederland, Colorado, U.S.

Comprised of multi-instrumentalists Bonnie Paine, Sage Cook, Dango Rose, Daniel Rodriguez, and Bridget Law, Elephant Revival’s members had all played in previous groups before forming in 2006. The group inaugurated this formation by playing their debut show in October 2006 at the Gold Hill Inn, under the moniker Elephant Revival Concept. The band subsequently dropped the “Concept” and begun worked on their debut full-length. Released in 2008, Elephant Revival’s debut, self-titled and self-released album, showcased a talented collective content on combining the wavering vocals of traditional Scottish and Celtic music and intricate fiddle and guitar work, with the flair of jazz.

After signing with Ruff Shod Records, founded by Chad Stokes of State Radio and Dispatch, in 2010, the group released their sophomore album “Break in the Clouds” in November 2010. Like its predecessor, the record was produced by David Tiller of Taarka, and was toured regularly in support of around the U.S., opening for the likes of Dispatch, Devotchka, Little Feat, and George Clinton and Parliament Funkadelic. Recorded entirely using analog equipment, the band’s subsequent release, the EP “It’s Alive”, was released in 2012. Representing their most intimate, homegrown and handcrafted release the date, the record is a haunting showcase of vocals, folk instrumentation, and songwriting. The following year Elephant Revival issued their third full-length album, “These Changing Skies”, to a string of positive reviews.

  • Elephant Revival

When I think of folk music, I usually instantly refer to slightly twang-y, very laidback, front-porch type of folk music. However, I instantly snapped back to reality and appreciate the evolution that folk music has taken. One group that represents where folk music is currently is, is Elephant Revival. Consisting of Bonnie Paine (vocals, washboard, djembe, musical saw), Sage Cook (electric banjo/guitar, acoustic guitar, mandolin, viola, vocals), Dango Rose (double-bass, mandolin, banjo, vocals), Daniel Rodriquez (acoustic guitar, electric banjo/guitar vocals), and Bridget Law (fiddle and vocals), the group has included things from different genres to make something uniquely spectacular.

The group has a clear equal footing, as exemplified by their standing side by side instead of taking up the back to the front staging. There is a shared passion between all of them, and as they play their instruments you can see that they are in their absolute happy place. The chemistry between them is apparent both when they play and when they are between songs. They talk to each other, to the audience and sometimes to know one in particular. The fans have a wonderful time, swaying back and forth for the slower songs, and feeling a bit of dance for their faster paced songs.

  • Ok...everyone listen up. Josh Ritter is one of my hands-down favorite artists. There isn't one ounce of hesitation to buy a brand new album or nab a concert ticket the second either is released. Elephant Revival is a close second to Josh. Yes, they are that good.

It is a DOUBLE bonus that Josh is bringing Elephant Revival along with him to Tucson. Seriously, I feel like I just won the lottery. Elephant Revival will knock your socks off with their performance. Trust me. Two amazing acts on one night. Unbelievable.

  • Great show at Red Rocks 2017! They played about 2 hours and we all howled at the moon for the final encore "Sing to the Mountain". Played through a late May rainstorm so we were on our feet the whole show...but what a blast. Elephant Revival mixes Americana, Folk, Rock and Celtic music for a very eclectic sound and show. Highly recommended!!!

  • Enchanting, Sublime, simply magickal. This band live is a must have music experience. The interplay of performers and composite of instruments is amazing, from the fiddle to the washboard to even a saw on encore! When Bonnie sings, you are captivated and awed. I love them, and you should see them.
