  • The Red Hot Chilli Pipers

Look closely, no it’s not the world famous funk rock band Red Hot Chilli PEPPERS, instead it’s Scotland’s own Red Hot Chilli PIPERS. Combining traditional bagpipe music and classic rock is a thing that really shouldn’t work, but for the Red Hot Chilli Pipers, it does. Going from classic to classic, from Deep Purple’s ‘Smoke on The Water’ to Journey’s ‘Don’t Stop Believing’, as well as incorporating more modern tracks such a Avicii’s ‘Wake Me Up’, it’s probably a given that the audience already know most of the tracks. What they don’t know however, is the Red Hot Chilli Piper’s own unique interpretation, replacing most of the vocal lines with an impressive show of bagpipe virtuosity.

As a live act, Red Hot Chilli Pipers are fantastic. In matching black and red kilts, the entire ensemble seems to have a genuine enjoyment and passion for what they are playing, while additional dancers are occasionally brought on to make the spectacle even bigger. Highlights include the guitar vs bagpipe solos that pepper the set, particularly during a cover of AC/DC’s ‘Thunderstruck’ that prove the serious musical skill of the entire band, as well as providing some good crowd pleasing entertainment. While the Red Hot Chilli Pipers aren’t for everyone – bagpipes are notoriously love them or hate them – if you can handle the pipes, then definitely check them out.

  • First time at the red hot chilli pipers was a brilliant show pity it was interrupted by the fire alarm going off which meant we had to go outside and when show restarted only got to see small part as a friends husband was picking us up and didn't get to see the final would definitely go back though
