Fusions of different genres of music are something that really interests me, and Fallulah’s combination of indie pop, folk, and rock with electronic backing from her band members creates a really unique and original sound. She’s been compared to many huge names in the industry including Florence & The Machine, and Adele, but I personally think that she has her own unique sound.
She opened the show with Out Of It, where she played the tambourine as well as singing the lead vocals. She was great at shouting out to the audience and getting everyone on her side for the show, and when she asked everyone if they’d like to sing along, the applause was tumultuous, and everyone was really up for joining in. She played through Escapism in its entirety in a chronological order, and even adapted some of the songs from the full band set up that they have on their recording, to an acoustic sound for the performance. It was great to hear her vocal improvisations that you just don’t get on the recordings, and her band supported her brilliantly at these moments.
Towards the end of the set, she played a new song that she said she had recently written, and it was awesome to be the first audience to hear the live performance of this unreleased song. As soon as she finished, she had the audience on our feet, and played a wonderful rendition of No Time for Love which was a wonderful end to the evening.
