Stephanie Minix Does Modern Farmhouse for Two

Stephanie Minix

Creating a co-living space is a challenge for any parent—except maybe Stephanie Minix, a multifaceted mom of three who graces our feeds. With a passion for home decor and renovation adventures, Minix picked her latest project to tackle: transforming her son’s toddler room into a modern farmhouse haven for two. Minix has long prioritized a cleaner, healthier home—a notion that’s also of great importance to Pottery Barn Kids’ designers.

I love that our Pottery Barn Kids furniture is GREENGUARD Gold Certified. It makes me happier knowing my children are breathing and sleeping in low-chemical emission materials, cleaner air and high-quality furniture.

With a style Minix affectionately dubbed “modern farmhouse with a touch of trucks,” country-inspired minimalism is fused with—well, you guessed it—actual trucks. “My eldest son is very silly and easygoing. His love for trucks is constant,” she divulged with amusement as she discusses the room’s wallpaper. “I wanted a bedroom that could offer space and style for both a new baby and a growing toddler.” Gathering design and DIY ideas from social media accounts, Minix cites Instagram, Pinterest and even TikTok as her top places for inspiration.

For this room, the main design driver was the Camden House Bed. “I first fell in love with the bed, and everything else was designed around it. When I saw it came in a black finish, my vision for the boys’ bedroom started there,” recalls Minix. With one of the largest pieces out of the way, it was on to sourcing complementary furniture. “Pick pieces that will grow with your child. Pottery Barn Kids has so many collections that grow from nursery to teen! We choose the Charlie Dresser and end table in the boys' room. I love that it offers various shelves and desk styles in the same wood finish.”

Her less-is-more approach is echoed in her decision to choose coordinating accents and can be seen in the small details of the printed bedding she chose for both boys and the rustic wood Booksmart Shelving that houses their favorite books. It’s a fully functional space for two…that even the littlest trucker would be proud to call his own.
