PARIS – Sitting at a big rectangular table in a room decorated with an iconic Andy Warhol portrait of Yves Saint-Laurent, Le Monde editors “felt like being in a dentist chair.”
At least, that’s how one of them describes the mood five years ago when the top three editors of France’s most influential daily were regularly called in and grilled by their paper’s new owners.
The contentious tone of these monthly meetings, even the fact that they took place, help explain why Le Monde is looking for its sixth top editor in five years.
