O*NET OnLine Help Job Duties Custom List
Use your job duties to find occupations that perform similar work, with the Job Duties Custom List feature. This search uses the O*NET database of over 19,000 occupation-specific task statements.
The first step is to identify your current occupation, to use as a starting point for your search. In the following example, the user enters "biomedical engineer".
The next screen displays a list of occupations matching your search query. In this example, "Bioengineers and Biomedical Engineers" appears at the top of the list.
Click on the occupation that most closely matches what you do:
Click any listed occupation to see its task statements. In this example, the user selected Bioengineers and Biomedical Engineers.
Select whichever tasks you perform now, or would like to perform at your next job. In the following example, the user chose the first two task statements and clicked the Go button. Related occupations are shown which involve similar work to the user's chosen tasks.

- Export the full list of occupations to Excel or CSV with the Save Table links.
- Filter the occupations to show only those in a selected Job Zone by clicking one of the Show Job Zones buttons.
- Sort the occupation list by clicking any column header. Click the header a second time to reverse the sort order.
For any occupation listed, select its title for more information about the corresponding occupation. To learn about the data presented for an occupation, see OnLine Help for Summary, Details, or Custom Report.
To examine an occupation's task statements, click the number in the Closely Related Tasks or All Related Tasks column. In the example below, the user clicked "3" in the "All Related Tasks" column for Robotics Engineers.
- Design software to control robotic systems for applications, such as military defense or manufacturing.
- Conduct research on robotic technology to create new robotic systems or system capabilities.
- Conduct research into the feasibility, design, operation, or performance of robotic mechanisms, components, or systems, such as planetary rovers, multiple mobile robots, reconfigurable robots, or man-machine interactions.
Click on any section header to show or hide the task statements in that section.

Closely related tasks are linked to the same Detailed Work Activity (DWA) as one of your selected task statements. The O*NET Database contains over 2,000 detailed work activities performed across a small to moderate number of occupations.

Less related tasks are linked to the same Intermediate Work Activity (IWA) as one of your selected task statements. The O*NET Database contains over 300 of these more general activities common to many occupations.

Full task list shows every task relevant to the occupation. If you cannot see yourself performing these activities, you may wish to consider another occupation.
