Tournament review

This was the very first championship of Russia as its formal predecessor, Soviet Union was dissolved in December 1991. The competition wasn't the strongest. Last Soviet Club champion Tigran Petrosian Moscow did not arrive. There were just two 2600 players in the pool (Khalifman and Epishin) and as much as 25 unrated players! Sankt Petersburg team edged out Khorda Chelyabinsk by a mere fraction; these two and bronze medal winners CSKA qualified to the 1993 European Club Cup

The championship was organized (at the cost of 150,000 rubels) by the Russian Chess Club.
