Monthly Tropical Weather Summary

For the central North Pacific, between 140W and 180W:

One tropical cyclone, Hurricane Hone, formed in the central North 
Pacific basin in August. Forming on August 22 just west of 140W 
longitude, Hone become the first tropical cyclone to develop in the 
basin since October 2019. Hone moved across nearly all of the 
central North Pacific basin, briefly reaching hurricane intensity 
as it passed south of Hawaii on August 25 and eventually weakening 
to a post-tropical low just east of the International Date Line on 
September 1.

Hurricane Gilma crossed 140W longitude into the central North 
Pacific on August 27 and quickly weakened to a tropical storm. 
Gilma dissipated nearly 200 miles east of Hawaii on August 30.
