Hello, indieDB Community!
Welcome to the 13th article about our in development game, Nata.
If you want to find out more about our game, check out our other articles on our indieDB page.
After months of polishing Nata, we"re here to show you how much the game has improved!
I hope you like how Nata"s looking so far. For those who want to help us provide to the players the perfect gaming experience while playing the game, there is a form for Nata"s final beta testing, at the end of this article.
Nata"s comparisons
Here we have some screenshots showing the visual differences between the 1st "final" vertical slice of Nata in June 2023 and the final vertical slice of Nata in August 2024.
Main Menu
We finally added a background photo that fits the game. It"s an edited screenshot of one of our game areas, Largo do Senado. It"s where the main action of the game happens.

Store"s UI
Nata has two stores: Li Qiang"s fashion shop and Storm"s art and crafts shop. Since the beginning, our idea was to have a store UI resembling a little bit of Undertale"s shop, and after polishing the game and altering the initial idea a bit this is what we ended up with.

Camera Angle + Shading
What impacted Nata"s visuals the most, was the camera angle. We decided to change it and make it a less top-down view. Like this, the player can still see the bits of building and other objects around the map while keeping the curiosity of exploring it. We have also added more buildings and objects to the different areas, so we could make Nata more lively and full.
Besides that, the shaders developed by our programmer made Nata way more bright and dreamy. Our idea was to transmit peace and happiness to the player while they are enjoying their adventure in Nata and what"s the easiest way to achieve this? By making the game more colourful, more orangey and more appealing to the human eye.

Dialogue boxes
As mentioned in previous articles our inspiration for the main dialogue boxes was from Bear and Breakfast. Finally we were able to achieve our goal to try to make it similar to how we pictured it.

Quest Tracker
The quest tracker our artist made inspired by the red envelopes used in Chinese New Year were implemented! It can also let you keep track of multiple quests at the same time now, as opposed to one at a time like before.
Before vs. After
Hope you liked seeing our work throughout this year. If you still want to see more of Nata, you can always try it out and test it for us :), all feedback is welcomed!
