First extended gameplay trailer, showing how all our mechanics, edits, and new features work in an un-cut segment. This gameplay trailer includes major level edits, new enemies, remodeled and re-animated weapons, new music original music scores, new effects, new AI behavior, new pathing, and just a whole lot more new stuff in general! This is all still WIP so nothing is perfect but I think we're making major strides.
Any feedback is appreciated. If you love it or hate it let us know!
I need this so much
Honestly, gonna be an awesome mod, cannot wait! :D
I need it, NOW!!!!
Soon! Valve Time...
>No HUD
Like, at least make the HEV mention the ammo capacity by utilizing it's original scripts from the pre-release version.
Hud was disabled for the gameplay video.
Maybe make the ambient sounds a little more quiet. Other than that it looks fantastic
I would agree, some of the lab ones are a bit noisy!
It's so dark all the time. Would be cool if you could place a couple more lights around the place or something.
Maybe the gamma slider was just a little too far
That bathroom looks wayyy to copy-pasted you should really add something there to make it feel more unique otherwise it would get repetitive fast
Maybe change the yellow tiles to colors that reflect the mood of the chapter in question (for example a sanitary blue for questionable ethics) one with photoshop, add some posters maybe switch up the locations of the toilets.
it would go a long way to make the BMRF feel more immersive
I thought about it, but then again it IS a bathroom in an industrial military complex. I don't know if they're going to have their own special flourishes or anything. I just put in more bathrooms because there was literally only one in the whole game before for a facility with hundreds (thousands?) of staff!
I know but its really distracting to see the same bathroom over and over again.
Maybe you can make some bathrooms have worst conditions make some more run-down paler walls maybe, some dead bodies would help too.
but you should still make them have a color pallet that fits the area around them, after all its not like the BMRF is running out of funds
This looks WAY better than I thought it would be, great job! I have some things to nitpick about though:
1- It looks pretty dark, I think maps could be a little bit brighter.
2- Kingpin seems to be a textbook run & attack type enemy, a role that would be more fitting to the Panthereye, how about giving them mind blasts as it was intended, or at least some sort of ranged attack. Also their melee seems to be bugged, you take damage before the animation plays.Other than that it is pretty awesome too see the creature charge at you.
3- SMG's reload animation seems off but it might have something to do with FOV.
4- Lastly, while this isn't a nitpick but more of a suggestion: More Map Edits!
Questionable Ethics looks completely different and I love it!
Playing HL from start to finish with edited maps like in the video would be great. It would be like playing a completely new game.
Looking forward to play this and good luck.
Thanks for the input! Lemme try and address your thoughts.
1. The map is a bit darker than the regular one, though part of that is just due to me being incompetent when encoding video! I do also have my gamma/contrast set to the default (and surprisingly most people play with brightness cranked up and get used to HL looking washed out).
2. The kingpin is a melee bruiser enemy, as nothing like that really exists in the game. It's an enemy that you cannot really stand your ground against. I found that to be a fun concept as the way they force you to adapt is always fun. Having another ranged enemy who sits there and zaps you wouldn't do much to differentiate them from an alien slave or controller. The zombie is the only other melee-only enemy in the game but they go down pretty quickly.
You are also correct in noticing that the player took damage before the animation played. That will be addressed, it's just a part of their code that let's them attack while moving. Zombies also do this, it's to keep the player from simply backpedaling forever.
3. It's substantially better than it used to be! Gordon's arm used to completely fall apart in the animation! I fixed it up and aligned everything but kept the core animation the same. I may re-visit it but I do want to preserve as much as I can.
4. Yep, that is the plan! It's very time-consuming to work on the maps, especially since they can get completely mangled in a decompile so we have to go back in fix hundreds and hundreds of bugs in them before even attempting to make actual gameplay/structural edits. There are some maps that I'm considering just completely remaking as their decompile is so devastated.
Thanks for the reply, more map edits sounds great!
Fair points on The Kingpin too. It would be a unique enemy, a fast, big and resilient monstrosity that pursues you relentlessly.
Once again, good luck.
Is that OpFor marines I saw in the gameplay video? I saw security with SMGs, most useful so they're not just plinkers! That and the grunts have longer gun bursts make them far more threatening now.
No, they are regular hgrunts but with some small model tweaks to bring up their quality a tiny bit. The old gas mask grunt literally had a box for a head and no neck.
Maybe I was looking at things and thinking too hard.
Following! I actually did something similiar as you in wanting to make hl1 harder and increasing monster speeds and attack rates :) glad to see you took it one step further with some coding and map changes. cant wait for this bud and hope to see more from the mod!
Yeah this project started as a model/anim/skill tweak but certainly evolved.
Not gonna lie, the Zombie Soldier, scared the crap out of me
Brilliant work guys! i'll be looking forward to this
Looks really nice, love the modifications on the level so far! :)
This is amazing, expanding the original HL1 maps with this lighting gives the experience a new taste. I loved the idea of Barney with mp5, can't wait to play this mod, good luck!
Wow, just seen this mod. Hope for a release soon (-ish), would be a dream for a diehard Half Life fan. <3
