The total conversion modification Battlefield 1918 (or BF1918 for short) takes Battlefield 1942 into a whole new scenario, the first world war. Next to historically correct equipments and vehicles, we recreated the atmosphere of these WW1 battlefields as close as we can, keeping in mind the game we are working with. To achieve this, we have drastically changed the gameplay from the original game like so that you must now rely on teamwork, artillery, trenches and slow vehicles.
Battlefield 1918 combines fun with historical correctness, gaming with history, the memory of one of the most terrifying wars mankind has ever known, with fun had by people over the internet. Next to the battles fought on the Western front between mostly the Germans, the British and the French, wealso cover other scenarios, such as the Turkish battlefields at Gallipoli, the Eastern front where Germany and Austria-Hungaria fought against Russia, the Italian front and lately the battles in Africa. Next to land- and airbattles using historic weapons and vehicles, we also included the naval aspect of WW1 in a broad spectrum, as this was the time in which the great battleships still were the absolute rulers of the seas. This mod focus on Multiplayer, but has also Singleplayersupport.
For a lot more detailed overview we're very proud to gratefully present a work of our former member Fritz_Kempf aka Sniper-Snoop who has put countless hours of efforts into a very detailed and informative wiki entry at forumeerstewereldoorlog.nl which contains a lot of additional informations about this modification and it's content. We recommend it very much to anybody who not only wants to know something about the mod itself but also it's historical background - though it's written in Dutch the linked translator will give you the possibilty to gain all of the knowledge included. Please note that it's currently in a pre 3.1 state as our former member sadly had to retire from developing due to a lack of time.

Welcome to the Editor's Choice awards for the 2024 Mod of the Year Awards, where we show recognition to the mods from the past year that we've found to be personally deserving of attention. We've chosen a series of award categories which range from best singleplayer mod, to multiplayer, to most anticipated and to several more unique and theme related categories.
A mod which brings extra depth or significance to an engrossing singleplayer experience.
For: Portal 2
Any mod which manages to expand on one of the greatest single player journeys and puzzle games of the last decade has our attention, and Portal: Revolution manages just that. It's a prequel, with a great story line and set of challenges to overcome, as you would expect from any Portal experience. Jump back into the decaying Aperture facility, and good luck!
A mod which offers a new way to play with your friends.
For: Battlefield 1942
It's hard to look past a mod, which brings historically correct equipment and vehicles and atmosphere to life. It brings an entirely new play style to Battlefield 1942 in a new setting reliant on teamwork, artillery, trenches and slow vehicles to survive the 256 player battles. In 2024 the team celebrated the 20th anniversary, so it gives us great pleasure to acknoledge that effort here.
A mod which focuses on beatifying an older game with technical and artistic upgrades.
For: Need for Speed Underground 2
RTX Remix burst onto the scene from NVIDIA as a new way to mod and remaster Direct X 8 and Direct X 9 era games (of which they are many). One of the main premise of the technology is the ability to apply modern lighting and ray tracing to these classic games via mods, if you have a RTX capable GPU. As such the results can be quite breath taking, as evidenced by NFS: Underground 2 Remix which has transformed the look of this 2004 classic racer. We're now partnered with NVIDIA and promoting this new tech and mods like this which emerge from it's usage.
A mod which overhauls a game, enhancing or changing it to be a whole new experience.
True Stalker is everything and more we've come to expect from total conversions of this timeless game, bringing a new story, reimaged levels, gameplay improvements, revamped visuals, voice over and translations. If you're enjoying S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl like us right now, this is one to check out.
A mod which has continued to receive major updates and support, years after its original release.
For: Return To Castle Wolfenstein
8 years on from 1.0 of this mod first shipping, the team continues to drop massive updates, which make you want to Return to Castle Wolfenstein once again. 5.0 landed in 2024, featuring new weapon animations, throwing knives, interactive hub, checkpoint system, overhauled maps and plenty more QoL improvements. If you played the original game back in 2001 and enjoyed it, this mod will recapture the nostalgia and add too it.
This is a mod that we wouldn't be surprised to see as an official expansion,
or be worth paying money for.
For: Gothic II - The Night of the Raven
If you are stuck in the nostalgia of early 2000's total conversions like us, and want to relive classic games but with new content over and over, then Arkona has you covered. It brings a brand new storyline to Gothic II - NotR, with 10 hours of gameplay set in a new world, with a new storyline and NPC's to engage with. Hats off to the team for delivering this, 20 years after the title first shipped.
A mod that dives into a period of history rarely touched upon by other games,
and does so with great attention to detail.
For: Company of Heroes
A brilliant singleplayer mod for the original Company of Heroes, which brings tons of historical skins, and enhanced campaigns. The goal is to faithfully recreate historical engagements as best as possible, with correct units, bigger vehicle choice, and lots of little personal touches to make every vehicle and solider feel unique.
Best Adaptation Award
A mod that uses the story or universe of a film, television show, or other property to
accurately recreate its world and vibe.
For: Quake
What could possibly be better, than a mod which combines two of our favorite things, by bringing Doom II to Quake 1. This mod really tricks the senses, as it has the look, feel and sound of Doom, paired with the all too familar physics, lighting and feel of Quake which we spent far too much time playing all those years ago.
A mod that takes a game in a new and interesting direction.
You are likely wondering what is the twist that Zero Hour: Enhanced mod provides, and the answer is simply - it avoids all of the modern effects used by games, like bloom and edgy lighting, to just make something practical and beautiful. We love raw, remade, reworked and overhauled infantry, vehicles, textures, maps and effects, particularly when applied to our favorite games, and this mod captures the essense of all of this perfectly.
A mod which, though not yet released, has spent 2024 building incredible anticipation for it.
For: Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord
Set in feudal Japan in 1568, and with stunning attention to detail, every unit video, battle location, and texture this Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord mod team has to share has us on the edge of our seat. It's ambitious, unique, and while we suspect it may still be a few years off release, we're enjoying the journey and encourage you to follow along with it's updates.

Voted as best mod of the year
I remember when I first played this mod back in late 2004. Back then, BF1918 had a different background video and Hunting the Hun as bg music. Also, germans and french used vanilla voices and they were the only factions present at the mod. So good to see that the mod is still alive, while most of the others were forgotten... Hope to see all vanilla BF42 maps getting a BF18 version one day.
I see you had the Russian Civil War. Any idea for a Turkish War of Independence?
Of course there is such an idea, but first we need to add the Greeks to the main mod
After the Japanese Army vs the Red Army in Vladivostok. I am looking forward to downloading this.

Hey! I follow the mod since the beginning and year-by-year waiting to be able to play SANAGA RIVER map with bots. Is it possible that you'll add it to the list in the next update? Thanks! Keep up the amazing work!
I've also been wanting to add bots there for a long time, but there's a problem with the control point on the ship. The only way to get there is by swimming, but the bots are not very friendly with boats, so we need to come up with something with this cpoint
