If anyone stumbles across this, don"t play this version - it"s broken and doesn"t work properly.
A version that was rebuilt to work properly is available here: Moddb.com
...not that you should play it at all - it"s really not very good.

These two maps are already a MASSIVE step up from Xen"s Horror.
There"s still room for improvement - my main issue is how quiet it is, so maybe add some background noise - but you"ve clearly learnt a lot and I"m looking forward to seeing how this one goes.
Glad to see I wasn"t the only one to take over two hours to finish this!
"Nota: Para evitar errores de textura, se recomienda revertir Half-Life al legado construido antes del 25 aniversario"
"Note: To avoid texture errors, it is recommended to revert Half-Life to the Build Legacy Pre-25th Anniversary"
Ah, OK. I was still using the original one.
Fun fact: PIZDEC is basically the Russian equivalent of FUBAR.
This relatively straightforward mod can best be described as technically competent but ultimately soulless. The opening, where rather than a train ride you have to walk through three maps of corridors before things start going wrong, can be used as a bit of a shorthand for the mod that follows – lots of walking, occasionally interspersed with basic combat and the odd set-piece. There"s nothing inherently wrong with this mod, but it lacks that "oomph" to make it shine.
Finally got round to downloading and taking a look at this, so I figured I"d let anyone else who"s curious know what to actually expect to find.
Half-Life has a bunch of multiplayer maps, several multiplayer-only mods (Action Half-Life, Classic Capture the Flag, Cold Ice, Infinity, Jail Break, Lambda Arena, Science and Industry, Sven Co-Op, War in Europe), a VERY old version of Counter-Strike and some maps for that.
Quake III Arena has a bunch of levels, tons of skins/models and a few useful tools, though nothing you can"t find elsewhere.
Unreal Tournament has by far the most stuff - TONS of levels (around 280 across the various game modes), a few mods and mutators, and a couple of player models.
I"d imagine quite a few of those levels aren"t online any more, so if you"re interested, there"s plenty here to keep you going.
From the installer:
"Note: To avoid texture errors, it is recommended to revert Half-Life to the Build Legacy Pre-25th Anniversary"
OK, I"m probably being dumb, but I"ve gotten stuck.
I"m in the map "reptile" and I"m about halfway through? In the room with the two blue cargo containers, a Mac-10 and a locked off door next to a locked off shootable thing. (Image: Steamcommunity.com )
I THINK I"m supposed to go up the stairs and go through the door up there, but I can"t see to open it. Any chance of some help?
EDIT: Gave up and noclip"d through the door. I must have missed a switch or trigger to unlock it.
However... I"ve now encountered another minor issue, which is that the final map transition doesn"t trigger! When I use the bed, the screen fades to black, the noises play... and then it just cuts back to me standing in fromt of the bed. I had to manually load the credits map (handily just called "credits").
As with the first upload, the exe file has been caught by my anti-virus software, claiming it"s infected with FileRepMalware.
Once again I am asking you to release the mod as a zip file - it avoids issues like this. I know you made a nice little installer, but they"re generally frowned upon for this exact reason.
EDIT: This is now obsolete, as the author"s fixed the mod.
Until the author can fix it, a a quick temporary fix would be to head into the models folder of the mod, copy-paste dumpster_lidopen_blue.mdl and rename the copied one to dumpster_lidopen.mdl.
I know this is probably an in-development mod (I"m assuming that given it"s "dev 0.02", a bit more of a description of what this is would be appreciated), but you"ve included a lot of files that don"t need to be there.
- There"s a bunch of models and .bmp images in the base directory that shouldn"t be there
- Only .bsp files need to be in the maps folder, everything else should be gone
- Only .mdl files need to be in the models folder, everything else should be gone
- Don"t include a SAVE folder when sharing your mod
As for the maps themselves, I"m guessing this is your first mod, because they"re pretty basic - the levels are all very square and simple - and they don"t really flow into each other very well. Case in point: I know the standard textures are a little limited, but why does the second map use Xen textures that don"t match the rest of the mod?
Since I"m talking about that second map, why is there a Gonarch there when the player is NOT equipped to deal with it and there"s no room to run past it? That strikes me as rather unfair, especially as there"s also a dozen headcrabs to deal with before that.
Also, I"m not sure what"s up with the level transitions, but they don"t work correctly. They gave a "only the server can change maps" error, which meant I had to quick-save, quick-load to get them to work. Not sure what you"ve set the maps to be, but it"s not right.
I sound pretty negative, and I don"t mean to be. It"s not too bad for someone"s first attempt, but there"s clearly a lot of room for improvement. Keep at it.
My anti-virus software had a lot of fun with this one, claiming it was infected with "Custody". Even when I flagged it as a false positive, while running the installer I KEPT getting messages that the program couldn"t find "readme_en.isl". And I mean it - this message popped up on every single screen of the installer.
If you could please upload this as a zip or rar file rather than an exe installer, it would make things MUCH easier for everyone.
I think there might be a reason these maps were lost.
I"m just glad my re-uploaded got a few more eyes on it. :)
The Jan 2025 demo is pretty good, though all the rooms on the lower floor felt a little too oversized. Not really a major criticism or anything, but worth mentioning all the same.
Otherwise, the map was excellent. Shame it"s just the one map!
As I say in the description, this is pretty much just a repack of the original mod - I"m aware there was probably no need to include most of the wad files, but they were in the original downloads, hence their inclusion here.
Think of it as an attempt at preservation.
Having now played through this to the end, I can safely say that this is a worse version of an already not very good mod.
I won"t dwell on the base mod, but instead talk about the additions - which are all very odd that don"t fit with the original in the slightest. The Combine in particular feel incredibly out of place, and all of them are incredibly lethal - a single shot from the Pulse Cannon they wield will take 20 HP off, so they can kill you in about a second. And that"s on Easy.
There"s also the fact that there"s tons more Heavy Chaingun Grunts, who take a substantial amount of damage to kill. Placing about 10 of them right before the Police Station near the end of the mod is an especially evil thing to do, so make sure you save up your Depleted Uranium ammo.
Other additions to the enemies are more forgivable - adding in more hostile Barneys & Otis" is perfectly fine, though Otis IS armed with a Desert Eagle, so he HURTS - and the extra weapons are all over the place but work well enough.
The fact is, I just don"t think the author actually bothered to playtest this before releasing it, because if they had, they"d have realised how much more difficult it is now. Going through the city at the end is damn near impossible without cheating due to all the extra enemies.
There"s a germ of an interesting idea here, but it"s implemented in a particuarly poor manner, and I really don"t recommend anyone play this over the original.
New enemies, NPCs and weapons have been added to the maps, which otherwise remain the same.
So for example, you can now find a Desert Eagle in the first map with enemies opposite an Otis, and some Combine soldiers are mixed in with the standard grunts.
What an odd idea. I get adding in weapons and stuff, but why this mod in particular?
...and why is the Desert Eagle in slot 1? It should be in slot 2!
Shame you didn"t include a picture of the Assassin, she"s... interesting.
Extremely interesting find!
As you can probably tell from the screenshots, it"s a fairly basic series of levels, with some quite amateurish map making on display, and I"m 100% sure the new models are sourced from elsewhere (probably They Hunger).
The main frustration (aside from the mod crashing when I try to go into the options menu) is the increased health of the zombies, even on Easy - they take a good 8 headshots from the pistol to kill now, which is really quite annoying.
On the whole though, I"ve wasted 10 minutes on worse, so...
I really, really wanted to like this, but I could not wrap my head around the physics of it. I had to give up right after picking up the secondary ammo pack because it was frustrating me so much.
I can tell this is an excellent mod and despite my issues with it it"s clear this is very well made... it"s just not for me.
Fantastic, glad to see these being preserved.
A pretty good mod that was fun for the most part, but I had two issues:
- In the first map, the first metal box you"re supposed to use to reach the vent wouldn"t move. It was stuck in the floor for me. (I was using the 25th Ann. patch, that may be related)
- I could not find the pistol in Hell, which made fighting the boss a massive headache. I ended up just crowbarring the centre and ignoring the Vorts, which... probably isn"t the intended way of doing it.
I"m quite surprised at not only how different this is to the original Half-Life, but also how fun it is. It"s a shame the name is so misleading, because if it were called pretty much anything else, it"d probably get much more attention.
For those who are sceptical (I was too, considering the file-size!), this isn"t just another mash-up mod. Instead it"s a complete weapon and enemy overhaul, complete with entirely original levels to play through - and it"s surprisingly entertaining, if a little uneven with the difficulty.
If you"ve got the bandwidth and the hard drive space, give it a go - screenshots don"t really do this one justice.
If you need a workaround, you can go into the folder where you installed the mod, go into the models subfolder and delete bullsquid.mdl - that"ll revert it back to the original bullsquid.
It"ll look a tad out of place, but it should let you play the mod without triggering your phobia.
Gotcha, thanks.
