Iron Harvest takes place in the World of 1920 . It is an alternate version of our own world created by Polish artist Jakub Różalski. In the early 20th century, tradition clashes with progress, and the world is still full of mysteries and secrets.
Humankind, fascinated by technology, iron, and engines, invented powerful walking machines, that proved to be mighty weapons on the battlefields of the Great War and are now part of everyday life.
Now, a few years after the Great War, secret forces are working towards the destabilization of Europe, determined to set the world on fire and seize control.
Iron Harvest gives you time to come up with a plan and allows for a wide range of tactics, including stealth. Almost everything in the game is destructible – if the weapon is powerful enough. So no cover lasts forever and the line of sight changes constantly.
A mature story told from the perspective of the three different factions. Each faction has three playable hero characters that offer additional options in combat and reconnaissance.
Lead dozens of different unit types into battle. Soldiers can equip weapons on the battlefield to gain special abilities and more firepower.
Build your base and add fortification to protect your unit production and research.
There are three playable factions in the game, each with over a dozen individual units and three playable heroes.
The Saxony Empire is one of the most influential countries in Europe, with powerful industry, developed cities, modern factories and a strong military tradition. After the unfavorable conditions of surrender in the Great War, the current mood in the Empire is bad, and proud elites and humiliated aristocrats secretly oppose the Emperor’s appeasement policies.
The Polania Republic is a large agricultural country with a long history. It is trying to maintain its status and territory, struggling with its aggressive neighbors: The Saxony Empire in the west and Rusviet in the east. Polania initiated a program to modernize its army while a large part of the country is still occupied by Rusviet forces.
Rusviet is huge, powerful, and has unmatched industrial and population potential. However, the country is tired and worn out by the long war. People are frustrated, and the power of Tsar Nikolaj weakens. Mysterious Grigori Rasputin has become an extraordinarily powerful man and revolution is in the air...

Developers of Iron Harvest, a steampunk RTS game inspired by Company of Heroes and Men of War, mention a possible release of map editing tools. No modding capability is promised due to the notorious lack of moddability of the less modding-friendly Unity engine.
Here is the developers' exact response to that recurring moddability question:
Will there be official map making / modding tools?
(asked by DFYX)This has been the most-asked question, not only in our Discord channel, but also during the Kickstarter. We understand it’s very important for some of you and I can honestly state that we will do our very best to have at least a map editing tool available at a certain point. Unfortunately, it is really not easy to develop modding tools for games that are being developed with the Unity engine.
There are examples of that, like City: Skylines or Sudden Strike 4. City: Skylines (the game itself) is basically a big level-editor, so a lot of the necessary work has been done already. The Sudden Strike 4 editor is a Unity editor expansion, but pretty difficult to use (or even to get up and running).
Thomas, Lukas and Arne will be at the Unite (Unity developer conference) in Berlin next week and talk to the Unity guys about how to tackle the problem. I’m not sure if we will be able to deliver something on release but, as said, we heard you loud and clear and it became one of our top priorities.

This game either gets (hopefully robust) modding tools or dies a quiet death in a handful of months. I really want to like it, but so much of the content feels shallow (units only having 1 ability a piece, no depth to the cover system, seemingly identical infantry roster between all factions). It shoots itself in the knees with its extremely tight pop cap.
Bare minimum, it needs a map creation software so that people dont wind up playing repetitive matches on the exact same maps, which will rapidly become vapid and boring.
God damnit, I really want this to be good. Here's hoping in a year we'll have the means to keep this game relevant and alive.
They are planning to add a map editor in the future (soon hopefully). It may be mixed between being a good or bad game, however with the constant content updates and bug fixes I think it will end up being a great game over time.
RTS games dont need to be complex as hell.
