Beam

Beams are a type of weapon that Samus Aran can discharge using her Arm Cannon. The default beam that is used in the start of most Metroid games is the Power Beam, and it can be upgraded via collecting beam upgrades. They can be stacked or have a menu to choose from. Some beams can be enhanced by obtaining Charge Combos, which can eliminate groups of enemies quicker, but at the cost of various missiles.
Types of Beams[edit | edit source]
- Annihilator Beam
- Main article: Annihilator
The Annihilator Beam is a Luminoth weapon found on Dark Aether in Metroid Prime 2: Echoes. It is a weapon fires dark and light energy by combing them together. It attacks enemies of both dimensions in equal damage but is less effective than the dark and light beam on attacking opposite dimensions. It's charge combo is the Sonic Boom.
- Battlehammer

The Battlehammer is the weapon of choice of bounty hunter Weavel in Metroid Prime Hunters. It fires green projectiles that arc downward once shot, and they cause a small explosion on impact. It it uses Universal Ammo.
- Charge Beam

The Charge Beam is a function that appears in nearly all of the games. It allows Samus's Arm Cannon to charge and to combine with various weapons to increase damage and give special effects. It can also preform Charge Combos.
- Dark Beam

The Dark Beam is a Luminoth weapon found on Aether. It fires dark energy and is effective against enemies found in the light dimensions. It can be compared to the Ice beam because of its freezing effects. Its charge combo is the Darkburst.
- Diffusion Beam

The Diffusion Beam is a beam that when charged, bursts into a wide area on contact. This allows Samus to hit multiple enemies at once.
- Hyper Beam (Mother Brain)

The Hyper Beam is a beam obtained at the end of Super Metroid in the final battle. It can destroy any enemies in one shot and break walls and blocks.
- Ice Beam

The Ice Beam is a beam that appears in many Metroid games. It allows Samus to freeze enemies thus allowing her to kill them easier or use them as platforms . Its charge combo in Metroid Prime is the Ice Spreader
- Imperialist

The Imperialist is the weapon of choice of bounty hunter, Trace in Metroid Prime Hunters. It's a long-range quantum cascade laser with precision targeting used for sniping. It fires slowly and deals massive damage and uses Universal Ammo. It cannot be charged.
- Judicator

The Judicator is the weapon of choice of bounty hunter Noxus in Metroid Prime Hunters. It uses plasma at sub-zero temperatures to fire ice attacks. It can be compared to the Ice beam. It uses Universal Ammo
- Light Beam

The Light Beam is a Luminoth weapon found on Dark Aether in Metroid Prime 2: Echoes. It fires light energy and is effective against enemies of the dark dimension. It can be compared to the plasma because of its fire properties. Its charge combo is the Sunburst
- Long Beam

The Long Beam is a beam upgrade that allows Samus's weapons to reach much farther. It appears in Metroid and Metroid Zero Mission. In every other game it appears by default.
- Magmaul

The Magmaul is the weapon of choice of Spire in Metroid Prime Hunters. It produces a grenade of magma and launches it out, detonating three seconds later with very forceful power. Unlike most standard weapons, the Magmaul's projectiles bounce off of walls and obstacles. It can be compared to the Plasma beam. It uses Universal Ammo.
- Nova Beam

The Nova Beam is a beam found in Metroid Prime 3: Corruption. It fires a green high frequency blast of energy that can phase through objects, namely Phazite. Combined with the X-ray visor it can one hit kill some enemies.
- Omega Cannon

The Omega Cannon is a beam featured in Metroid Prime Hunters. It uses gamma radiation. It deals massive damage and it kills any character instantly. It is also a one-shot weapon in multiplayer, requiring the player to reacquire it.
- Hyper Beam (Phazon)

The Hyper Beam also known as the Phazon Beam is a weapon that appears in Metroid Prime and Metroid Prime 3: Corruption. It uses Phazon as ammo and deals heavy amounts of damage. In Metroid Prime 3: Corruption it appears as a major element of the game called Hypermode.
- Plasma Beam (2D)

The Plasma Beam is a beam featured in the 2D Metroid games. It is often the most powerful beam in the game. It can also pass through enemies.
- Plasma Beam (Prime)

The Plasma Beam is a beam featured in Metroid Prime and Metroid Prime 3: Corruption. It fires high temperature by creating super heating plasma. It can set enemies on fire. In Corruption it can be used to weld items. Its Charge Combo is the Flamethrower
- Power Beam

The Power Beam also called the Normal Beam is the default beam that appears in every game. It is the basic weapon of Samus Aran that can be upgraded with other beam weapons. It's often paired with the Charge Beam and Long Beam.
- Shock Coil

The Shock Coil is the weapon of choice of Sylux in Metroid Prime Hunters. It is a thin, blue beam of electricity that is only effective at close range. Once it's is locked on for a short time the damage dealt is increased. It was stolen from the Galactic Federation. It uses the Universal Ammo, and is the only weapon that can destroy the Blue Force Fields located in the Archives.
- Spazer Beam

The Spazer Beam is a beam upgrade for the Power Beam that appears in Super Metroid and Metroid II: Return of Samus. It fires a three way beam.
- Volt Driver

The Volt Driver is the weapon of choice of Kanden in Metroid Prime Hunters. It fires large, yellow energy spheres straight ahead when charged. The attack is slow, but deals more damage compared to other weapons. This weapon uses the Universal Ammo, and is the only weapon capable of bringing down a Yellow Force Field.
- Wide Beam

The Wide Beam is a beam upgrade that appears in Metroid Fusion It increases the width of the beam to almost three times the size of Samus height. It also increases damage.
- Wave Beam

The Wave Beam is a beam upgrade that allows the beam to pass through walls. It also makes the beam move up and down.
