A barnstar for you!

The Technical Barnstar
Heiya Jeroen,
this is for your tireless efforts on making extensions more professional as well as having an ear for the community. I and presumably a lot of other people out there very much appreciate this. Cheers and keep up your excellent work.

How we will see unregistered users

MediaWiki message delivery (talkcontribs)

Hi!

You get this message because you are an admin on a Wikimedia wiki.

When someone edits a Wikimedia wiki without being logged in today, we show their IP address. As you may already know, we will not be able to do this in the future. This is a decision by the Wikimedia Foundation Legal department, because norms and regulations for privacy online have changed.

Instead of the IP we will show a masked identity. You as an admin will still be able to access the IP. There will also be a new user right for those who need to see the full IPs of unregistered users to fight vandalism, harassment and spam without being admins. Patrollers will also see part of the IP even without this user right. We are also working on better tools to help.

If you have not seen it before, you can read more on Meta. If you want to make sure you don’t miss technical changes on the Wikimedia wikis, you can subscribe to the weekly technical newsletter.

We have two suggested ways this identity could work. We would appreciate your feedback on which way you think would work best for you and your wiki, now and in the future. You can let us know on the talk page. You can write in your language. The suggestions were posted in October and we will decide after 17 January.

Thank you. /Johan (WMF)

wmde/iterable-functions library

I came across a use for the iterable_to_array function from your iterable-functions library, but I was a bit surprised to find that it wasn't already in use in any WMF codebase (according to codesearch) and packagist seems to say nothing else depends on it either. What's up? It is safe to make parsoid depend on iterable-functions, or is there some other reason why nothing is using it yet?

Hello there, Jeroen! I am writing to you because a new WMF project, Structured Data Across Wikimedia (SDAW), is about to start.

SDAW is a grant-funded programme that will explore ways to structure content on wikitext pages in a way that will be machine-recognizable and -relatable, in order to make reading, editing, and searching easier and more accessible across projects and on the Internet.

The reason why I am contacting you is because of your involvement with Wikidata and Semantic MediaWiki, and your opinion would be of great interest for us to kickstart the discussion. We defined a series of questions we would like to have feedback on. If you want to ask a question on your own, or just want to share with us your ideas or opinions, please feel free to do so!

Also, if you know some other user(s) that can be interested, please let me know or invite them to join the discussion. The more, the better!

Hope to hear from you soon!

Jeroen,

I posted a problem on the SubPageList extension talk page. My compliments to your skill in clean coding--evident when searching for a possible fix. When you get a moment, would you mind taking a look and seeing if there is a way to get templates to work correctly under the SubPageList extension?

Thank you, sir!

Hello Jeroen De Dauw, I noticed you saying here you live close by. We are currently working on founding a chapter in Belgium. If you are interested in this, you can visit our wiki at wmbe: and sign up on wmbe:Founding/Interested people. Greetings - Romaine (talk) 16:00, 7 December 2012 (UTC)

I've already been on that list for half a year :)

Sorry, I apparently missed your name. Be welcome to be more active on the wiki and with the projects! :-)

Old version of Maps extension?

I have an old MW 1.15.1 install using the depreciated GoogleMaps extension that uses Google Maps V2 which is of course also depreciated. So all maps stopped working on my wiki as of yesterday. As a temporary solution, before upgrading MW and installing the current Maps, I'd like to use an earlier version of your Maps extension and for this I need the 0.7.x version but I couldn't find it anywhere. Is it still available to somewhere? If so, where?

Hi Jeroen, I notice you have some experience with SMW. Can you please help me troubleshoot a page on my wiki? See http://libertapedia.org/w/index.php?title=Edward_Brown_(prisoner)&oldid=23038 (working version) and http://libertapedia.org/wiki/Edward_Brown_(prisoner) (non-working version). I replaced the #ask with #show. Isn't that the command I'm supposed to use when I'm only trying to get one result? Once this is figured out, then there is a template I am also trying to troubleshoot, and then hopefully everything will be working as intended. Thanks.

By the way, if you get stuck on your project, or just want to bounce ideas of someone, feel free to drop me a line. I've only been programming MediaWiki for a few months, but I'm fairly good at research, and sometimes it's helpful to have a second pair of eyes look at a problem.

Jeroen De Dauw (talkcontribs)

I don't see anything wrong there. I'm not that familiar with SMW syntax though. You're better off asking such a question on the SMW user list: [email protected]

Thanks for your offer of support. Can you add me on some IM app (see user page for usernames)?
