But how do stop the Automatic block of IP address? I have internal wiki site up and running(in my company LAN), which has been published from my local system. Now when a blocked user tries to edit, the Automatically Block the last IP add. setting kicks in. Automatically block the last IP address used by this user, and any subsequent addresses they try to edit from As the the site is published , i only get a single ip address (192.168.0.11) on every user's system in the Lan. The Whole LAN group gets Blocked from editing. How do i stop the ip been blocked and only the username to be restricted?

You need to uncheck the "Automatically block the last IP..." setting when you are making the block. That option is only available in version 1.8 and above of MediaWiki, so if it isn't available to you, then you may need to upgrade. If you have already made blocks without unchecking that setting, then you will need to unblock the accounts and block them again with the setting unchecked. --bainer (talk) 11:14, 30 March 2007 (UTC)

I have a later version, but is there any way to change the default settings? I have to quickly block/unblock and blocking by ip blocks everyone, so I need to disable that option. (Another user).

Unblocking Methodology

Howdy- You may regard this as a support question, but it's basically a suggestion for improvement to user-friendliness when it comes to unblock requests on wikipedia. As it stands, various help pages refer the blocked user to two different list-serv e-mails. However, when the user e-mails these list-servs with unblock requests, they are promptly auto-replied to with a message stating that only approved users can message the list-serv emails.

This glitch only serves to further the (increasingly accurate) perception that wikipedia is non-transparent, accessible and of interest to only initiates, acolytes, etc.

I believe you are supposed to use an unblock ticket request service on Wikipedia, but please don't let Wikipedia things spill over to this wiki.Jasper Deng (talk) 01:55, 1 September 2012 (UTC)

Limited duration block?

On one wiki, I've seen two types of blocking. One is available to the "editor" user group, and is limited to one week in duration. The other is available to the sysops and is unlimited. How do I do this on my wiki?
